Hello Lucy,
Do you remember contributing some artwork to a charity-themed book about a year ago? We finally heard back from the publisher, and he asked me to pass along a message to all of the contributors.

"Dear Scott and Rifter 0.1 Contributors,

I spoke with one of the contributors to Rifts #0.1 at Visioncon this weekend and he told me that you had submitted the final work to Wayne nearly a year ago. I was not aware of this.

As soon I got back, I spoke to Wayne about this. He told me he had dropped the ball on this project and apologized.

Scott, I apologize for the confusion and delay. I was not in the loop, and in fact, thought that we were still waiting to receive the manuscript from you. If Wayne had mentioned getting it to me months ago, it sure didn't register.

I cannot completely explain why Wayne dropped the ball on this project, but I understand part of it.

I know you are tired of excuses, but please understand that the last year was another very difficult one in a stream of difficult years. If you've been following the Weekly Updates and/or my Murmurs from the Megaverse, you know that first, Alex had a serious house fire in 2011, then in May, Alex discovered he had a serious blood disease and death's was a looming reality unless we could get his condition under control, and fast. For the next five months I helped Alex with both matters and I'm glad to report that by the end of October, Alex's condition was no longer life threatening and could now be managed. In November, I discovered health issues of my own. In between I was dealing with many other things, both business and personal.

The unexpected events of 2011 made life difficult and draining on all of us. So difficult that we were unable to release most of the books on our schedule. So The Rifter #0.1 was far from the only victim of circumstance. We were struggling on many fronts, emotionally, physically and businesswise.

I didn't go into excruciating detail about it online because I didn't want fans to worry, but we were going through Hell. Alex and I lost at least six months of the year and Wayne was pretty much left holding the bag to manage as best he could while Alex and I were, in effect, out of action for months. And remember, there were only six of us on staff, and two of the remaining four are not involved on the creative or production end of things, and the other one was the green, new guy. Wayne did the best he could. Palladium suffered on all fronts. The Rifter 0.1 included.

In the chaos of it all, The Rifter #0.1 fell through the cracks. Truth be told, I doubt we could have gotten to it even if I was aware of the final manuscript having been submitted and it was on our to do schedule. If nothing else, Wayne should have been in contact with you and kept you in the loop.

I understand your anger and frustration.
This may all sound like an excuse to you, but that was the situation. We didn't ask for fire or debilitating life-threatening illness. All we could do was deal with it all as best we could. Which was not so well on the business end for Palladium.

Again, if you've been following the Weekly Updates, you know we feel like we are finally, only now, starting to get back on track with releases. We're working toward getting new books released and would still like to make The Rifter 0.1 made available as a PDF.

I know at least some of the contributors would still love to see this become a reality, and I'd like to see that happen this Spring (June, 2012 at the latest).

Palladium must, of course, make the final edits and changes it feels necessary. Right off the bat, I'd like to release the 300+ pages of material as TWO separate Digital issues of The Rifter -- The Rifter #0.1 and The Rifter #0.2. This works much better for Palladium on several levels and we can give fans half one month and the remainder the next month creating more hype and excitement while making the material more manageable for everyone. We'd find someone to do the second cover, unless one of the other contributors would like to do it.

Now that I'm aware of this all this, I will make sure, personally, The Rifter #0.1 sees release no later than June (hopefully sooner) and 0.2 the month or two after it.

I'm afraid that's the best I can do. I hope you and the other contributors are all interested in letting us move forward with it as two issues as quickly as possible. (FYI: We are always looking for new material for the "printed" Rifter, so if you guys and gals are interested, please do not hesitate to submit other material to us for print.)

Whatever you decide, I hope you know I appreciate your time, effort and hard work. I'm sorry it was fraught with delays and lack of proper communication along the way. I look forward to hearing from you.
