You are fantastic! I love how you bring to life such designs as the tac bat and radial fighter, among others. The formation flying scenes, the backdrops, the whole sense of imparting a reality to them is amazing. Thank you for sharing your work here on DA, I will definitely be watching for more (if only to update my screen saver slideshow).

As you know i am not a model maker, however i redesign paint and render models to cool them up rather like Chip Foose from "Overhaulin"
This started when i first started looking at models in Sketchup warehouse, it would pain me to see some great ships that were presented badly, for example a model in white with edges on, shot at a bad angle on a plain green background.
When all these issues are corrected, only then can the model in question live up to it's full potential.
However without amazing modelers like Scffiwarships or beautiful backdrop artists i could not function as a 3D re designer.
joe (Scifiwarships) and i go way back to the year 2000 which was long before he got into 3D modeling, we were gaming buddies back then.
Around 2009 he had plans to make a scifi novel, and he would show me lots of pencil sketches of the ships in the story, i suddenly had an idea and said why don't you make these fine drawings into 3D models (i knew he worked with Sketchup at his architect job) he got very excited and said OMG what a brilliant idea, two weeks later came back with a 3D space ship ! It looked great but was blank and as i had much experience with painting real time models i asked him if i could paint it in Sketchup he agreed and showed me me what to do, he was so satisfied with my work that we became a team, he would make and i would paint and texture.
The first seven models he uploaded to Sketchup 3D warehouse were my paint and texture designs including the mighty Jupiter, also his Jupiter pic on DA is the original pic i sent to him after i had finished painting it back in 2010. Even today i am still obsessed with it and i am still tweaking it and in my opinion is one of the greatest space battle ships ever made.

The following year he started making his own renders, but still to this day he tells me that i am a much more Superior paint man than he, and we are still firm friends.
As you are a fan of Joe i thought it might be fun for you to know some back ground about him and why i am always re painting his work.
Of late i have been silent on DA because i uploaded a newer version of Twilight and have been getting to grips with it.

Thanks for liking my work getting back to me, i'm rendering in twilight and tweaking the pictures in picasa, but i feel restricted by not being able to add speed effects, vaper trails and lasers etc, photo shop seems so huge is there an easier and cheaper way to achieve such effects ?

I use photoshop for those effects... The program is huge, like you commented, but I´ve been using it for years...(maybe I´m just using like a 20% of the capabilities of the program, but once you know how to do an effect, it becomes real easy)

Ok i see your point, i guess there's no escape from photo shop if you want all those yummy effects, as it happens i can get hold of an older copy and will try to read up on it, thanks for the advice

gimp is beginner's photoshop and it's free. no need to hunt for cheap old copies of the real thing.
