just to let you know that a certain person on here that is "giving you tips" actually traces the sketches himself which i, myself, have personally seen him do! if you want real advice, check with someone else. the only reason the "topps card sketches" are done so fast is cuz they are traced! just though id let you know if you actually wanted to go far in the drawing community and not just a card "tracer". if you have skill then you have skill. you shouldnt have to call the local newspaper every other month and ask them to do a story on you! have a nice night and let me know how you make out!

Oof! Didn't know that! I want to become a better artist of course... But I also need money. Comics is SO hard to get into - I'd eventually love to do pin-ups, covers, design work and so on, you know all original stuff. Blegh...
Any tips you can give me besides "practice, practice, practice" and "learn all you can" would be greatly appreciated! I'm sick of posting in comics forums and I never went to art school - just took art classes when I got my BA in History.. As a result, I really have no links or contacts in the art world for work.
But I definitely do not want to be a "tracer!" Thank you so much for the heads up!

not a problem at all. it just irritates me as this person takes so much pride in his "artwork" when it is actually someone elses. he goes online and gets pictures, re-sizes them and prints them out to trace over. i watched him do this and i wish i knew how to let someone know that he is using copyrighted material and slappin his name on it lol. i know some people around here take drawing lessons at local schools. yeah, you can practice, practice all you want but if you dont know where to start or what to do then it is pointless. there are several places to look for rather good advice. comic posts like this is hard to get good advice because they are all looking for money so they arent going to give you advice as you may cost them a job! if you have a facebook or myspace page, ask for advice there or where to go cuz family and friends will be honest with you! i hope this helps even a little bit...

And I get what you're saying about advice. I understand my artwork will always be changing (and hopefully get better! hahaha) I post stuff on FB - but I need advice on how to get work and how to get paid! haha Networking I guess is a better word..
