hey, art trades, commissions, requests, that's what you want.
An art trade is when you ask someone to draw you a picture and in return you draw a picture for them. Next, commissions, are when someone pays you to draw them a picture. Lastly requests are when someone simply asks you to draw a pic for them, nothing from them in return. I like doing those when I'm out of ideas. In all scenarios the requester can ask for a picture to be simply anything you can think to as specific as a full lay out or any where in between. Usually I find people just generally request the characters in the piece and leave the rest to you.

Thanks for the +watch, and welcome to dA! And about your drawing- don't worry too much about whether you're "good" or not right now. Whether or not you have natural artistic talent is not as important as how much effort you put into improving your skills and how much time you spend refining them. I'd love to see your pictures by the way, if you feel like posting them~

The best way to transfer traditional to digital is by scanning. You might have to play with the settings a little to get the scans to look right, and inking the drawing also helps. After scanning, I usually trace over it with my tablet. If you have a tablet and want a tutorial or something on tracing sketches I might be able to whip one up~

Mine was about $300, but most are around $150 I believe. Actually, I just looked it up, and I'm seeing from $46-$300. If you get one, I'd recommend the Bamboo Fun which comes with Corel Painter and Photoshop Elements, and is pretty easy to use. If you have the money, I'd recommend the small Intuos4, which is what I have. It comes with Painter and PSE and is pretty much awesome.
But, just know that a tablet doesn't make you a better artist. For me, it just made improving easier and Photoshop has the tools for techniques that I wouldn't be able to do traditionally, such as patterns, layers, different brushes, etc.
