Out of nowhere but I'll do my best

I'm not sure what culture is like is America so I can't precisely tell you what's different, but I can tell you some specifics;
As far as the country itself goes, it's a democratic presidential country with elections every 4-5 years bla bla basic stuff;
It's on a land border with many Balkan states, and has a sea border with Italy;
It's mostly a plains/hills region with a few taller mountains south side, tallest being Dinara;
The climate is mostly either continental or a moderatly warm one;

As for history, it was always part of other bigger "united countries", such as the Habsburg monarchy, AustroHungary, Yugoslavia, etc.
We were, unfortunately, the butt of many wars, even being split into ownership of multiple countries, the biggest fuss being over Rijeka, which was an excellent military and port position;
In more recent times (1990+), the biggest spark of controversy even being discussed today was the war between the attacking army of Serbia and the defending Croatian army. Many people are still debating over who was right and unfortuntely this causes a lot of fights and unneseccary violence.
Culture is quite simple, standard stuff like what people used to wear, instruments, lifestyles, etc. It's mostly a catholic christian country, celebrating the standard things like Christmas, Easter, as well as a few national holidays like independence day (10th of October), labor day (1st of May), and a few others relating to politics.

In terms of politics, we've had many dukes, kings, emperors, (like I said; we were often included in these "united countries" which often times had the major one being like "ayy lmao our stuff works so u should try it lol" instead of us having our own arrangement) and in recent years, presidents. Some more notable leaders include king Tomislav (first king to really make a difference), Josip Broz Tito (loved by not just Croatia but most of former Yugoslavia), the first president of Croatia, Franjo Tuđman (elected 1990, when in the following years Croatia finally became independent), the next two presidents, Stjepan Mesić and Ivo Josipovič, and the latest one elected 2015, Kolinda Grabar Kitarovič (being the first female president);
Not sure if it's that important, but the goverment is headed by the prime minister (Zoran Milanović), who has four deputy prime ministers and 17 ministers in charge of particular sectors of activity. As the excecutive branch, it is responsible for proposing legislation and a budget, executing the laws, and guiding the foreign and internal policies of the republic.

Some other random pieces of trivia;
Croatia has a very large tourism-based economy, mostly due to the Adriatic sea being clear, clean and warm, as well as having many islands.
The official currency is HRK or Croatian Kunas, exchange rate being around 5 HRK = 1$
The Croatian flag resembles a few others with it's red-white-blue stripe combo, but most notable is the coat of arms in front. it resembles a sort of shield with a red and white checkerboard, with 5 smaller shields with the symbols of the biggest provinces.
One of the most popular sports in Croatia is football/soccer/kickyballinthegoal, with the Croatian team, HNS (sometimes called "Vatreni" (Burning)), is the representative team, going so far as to be recognized by FIFA and UEFA.
