I think there's something to be said for keeping traditional art forms around. You might notice that nearly every one of my deviations are traditional art.

If they've lasted the thousands of years they've been on the planet, I can only imagine they'll be here for a while yet. It's just like how the guitar didn't get superseded by the more advanced instruments as time went along. It's been refined over the centuries, but it is still a wooden box with strings over a sounding hole, and people still love to play it.

Certainly I see the traditional methods being preserved in the Fine Arts field...but in the realm of commercial art? Definitely foresee the traditional ways being rubbed out by the Machines. *shaking head* I'm already feeling like a dinosaur...watching that big bright ball of fire in the sky....getting bigger...and bigger....*smile*

I wish this weren't the case . . . I think you're right. Digital art is faster to produce. You don't have to wait on oil to dry, the lines are cleaner than ink or pencil can produce in ideal circumstances, and there are a lot of effects you can do in a computer that are difficult, if not impossible, by hand.
But I do my part to keep the traditional art alive. Outside the commercial sector, I see traditional art thriving. People still appreciate the feel of traditional art. It feels more personalized, less sterile. As long as that's true, it's going to be around for a long time.
