that's what I miss when I'm in a 3D program- the ability to 'paint' things like real life- if they had a program that let me paint like I was painting miniatures, I'd be happy

I've seen something like that... I think it was in an episode of Ace of Cakes when they were doing a cake for some Star Wars Clone Wars celebration.. they got to tour where Clone Wars is put together and a 3D Artist was working on a computer on a 3D Model of R2D2.. he was rotating it around and essentially airbrushing it.

first guess would be in-house software that only they get to use- but I have a nagging suspicion it might be Zbrush, in which case I need to get off my tush and start working with it

New models look shiny, but it's not my thing. My view on changing armies is do something that plays different. DE's play too similar to Eldar.

Thanks. I'm actually in the process of breaking my own rules and painting them some more before I varnish them - lots of shading. I'll post an update when they're complete.

I tried varnishing my eldrad (bad move) so every time i play him he shines in battle. plus I have my biel tan 10 wraithguard to paint and the new Dark Eldar coming out soon in november!

Basically I've found a pro paint-on matte varnish that doesn't ruin models. I've since varnished nearly all of mine with it. (And yes, you can varnish over varnish)
