I love how you have the items for breedings and such. I used to run several various third party breedable and adoptable forums on some pet sites in which I'd use items and eggs for mutations and alterations to adoptables. I've thought about bringing the base idea back here to DA, but I worry that customers would not understand or would be scared off by the strange complexity and how it would essentially become a game within an art website.
May I ask how the item sales are going for you? Are they working out or does it sometimes not attract customers more? I'm simply intrigued that you do it here on DA...I used to love doing it on my old forums on Rescreatu.

The last breeding I did was actually the first use of the Prism Pendant. I also had just changed the effect of the item right before I opened up this round of breedings. It used to give a guaranteed 5 babies (the max normally), but then I changed it to 6, and I finally had a buyer.
So we'll see if more people buy it in the future. ^__^
I also literally just increased the price (like, right before I got your comment in my inbox. XD). 6 babies is super hard work. @___@
No one has bought a Red Knot yet. I kinda hope someone does eventually - breeding my own pets would be interesting. XD
I got the item ideas from SugarCubeStables , by the way. She's got more items, too. ^^ (Listed in her Commission widget at the bottom of her profile)
I've seen a lot of adoptable agencies on here really take off, and they have items as well. Most of the ones I watch aren't active anymore sadly, but they all have/had pretty large fanbases.

I wonder then if I could ever start up my old RP/adoptable forum game called Secrets of the Vale. I personally would not want to monitor the entire thing if it got really big, though, but I'd love to get it up and running again. Just without others to help me run it, it became difficult. It was really fun and I had alot of positive feedback, though. It ran on a monthly basis...with three 'special' eggs/items that would reveal special creatures in some way, shape, or form. The three special items or eggs were auctioned off through the entire month, and at the end there was a winner. Near the end the creatures would reveal themselves.
However, during said month, there were possibilities of special events such as invasions, mass transmutation occurrences, etc. Players would have to 'rp' based upon the items they may buy or find, to deal with the event at hand. If they owned creatures as pets, the creatures may be used in rp battle, and may suffer certain things. If an invasion occurred, there would be various loot. Every player's action was determined through percentages and random number generators.
There were also items that would hold a huge amount of possiblities and would have purposes for later dates and situations. These items would have to be 'tested' by players by RPing certain actions. For instance, one item I had back in the day was a book with a golden symbol upon it and written entirely in golden ink with mysterious runes. One 'player' decided to burn the book. This revealed one of its' qualities because his success rate number was high, and ended up transforming his creature into a blazing form, giving it a fire effect power as well for rp battle/invasion purposes.
I'd love to resurrect this rp/adoptable thing I had going on, but I fear I'd run into an issue with setup and keeping up with the admin position.

RPs can be done in the chat rooms here (I haven't done too much with them myself, but I'm pretty sure you can create your own chat dedicated to the Group, if you were to make it as such).
I'd definitely look into having more artists you trust to help make more creatures for the group. These artists could potentially help run the whole thing as well.
I was a Colorist for KiriKitties for a while (sadly it is now defunct), and while I couldn't kick people out or the like, I could vote on submissions to the Group. 
I think your ideas could really catch on, though!
