Sure thing june, I'm glad you liked it. I really can't wait to start taking lots of pictures and merging them together, with photoshop it's so gosh darn easy. As soon as the trees start to green up, I'm hitting the trails!
If you need the file again let me know I have it in my saved folder, for now I'll pull it off my scraps

thank you! its kind of funny i got so many answers on how amateur i am when it's actually what i mainly do for a living. lol. i never get to use natural light at work, though. and my job only involves basic training with studio lighting so my manual settings usually stay the same. the whole goal was i am trying to get used to using natural light. the picture was taken on the top of my couch next to the window, so the yellow and pink in the background are actually my curtains.
and your cats are absolutely stunning!!

My cats and I thank you Natural lighting tends to warm things up quite a bit, I'm guessing it was the sun that was making your curtains cast that tint over the overall photo. Nothing wrong with that, closing the aperture a little and or speeding up the shutter a wee bit could possibly help out as well.
What program do you use for your general photo editing? I'm using a trial version of aperture which I'll kick up to full version in a week (after trial expires). I have to say even though it's more of a workflow improvement program, it is extremely powerful. Many of the things pointed out to change on your photo (short of taking another shot) can easily be done with aperture. I learned all of the inns and outs of aperture in a quick 2 weeks. I have to say it's a much easier program for photo editing than the countless others I use. It doesn't offer you a complete range of photo editing tools, but it offers enough, and the ones it does have are extremely powerful. (I hate to sound like a lobbyist for aperture ^_^)
I'm an amateur photographer myself, I've been an artist since age 2, but dSLR and photo editing for only about 4 years.
Anywho, something else that could tone down and help with the colors coming out so bright - a neutral density filter. If you don't know what it is, it's basically a neutral colored lens that stops light from reaching the censor so quickly. Though ideal for long exposures, it still helps kick down the brightness when it can't be helped.
I ramble If you ever have any questions feel free to holler, I can't wait to see more of your stuff

oh yeah, and i used paintshop pro XI, just upgraded to XS so i can play around with .tiff and .cr2. plus it now supports HDR which should be interesting if i can ever get it right. lol

you can get a free trial of photomatrix which i have heard is much better for making hdr here [link] the trial version puts a watermark over your finished picture though and it limits tools quit a bit. there are some pretty good tutorials all over this website to do it also.

Any time! Thanks for posting all of your great lightning pictures! In the desert-ish climate I'm in, I am lucky if i see more than 8 lightning storms in a year *sigh*
