Greetings after all that long time. Hope you're fine. Remember me? We had some good brainstorming sessions, years ago, about Spore mods.

Hey man, how long can I expect until we're able to get the achievement for gathering all the creature parts again?

Also, could you maybe add in some invisible feet that provide Dance and some invisible hands that provide Pose? I'm sick of these two tiny pebbles that keep following my hoverbot around.

and do you think you could give the creature creator accessΒ  to vehicle parts? I need some tank treads for my mechanimals, and this is my best current attempt:Β

...that achievement exists?

I'll...think about the stats. We'll see.

No, I'm not adding Vehicle Parts to the Creature Editor. I'm trying to get DI re-aligned with its goals, and all that would do is further its misalignment. If you want Vehicle Parts in the Creature Editor that badly, you should look at some of the mods that already do exactly that.

I'm fairly certain that such an acheivment exists.

thanks.

fair enough. where can I find such mods?

OrbitSpore is the only one I can think of by name at the moment. IIRC its official link is long-dead, but there are countless mirrors out there, so it shouldn't be too hard to track it down.

If my memory serves me, the only component which still works is the parts one, so just install that one using the ModAPI Easy Installer, as per usual.

What's this about an installer? Until now I've just been plopping files into others files as instructed by the readme files.

Hi. I haven't checked back on your mod's site in a while.Β  what's this about a 1.7 patch? are you referring to that one mod that calls itself a patch but is actually just a mod?

Rob55Rod In reply to sin-and-love [2018-03-04 20:40:32 +0000 UTC]

No, I'm talking about the official Patch 7, released in March 2017.

The only reason you'd want it is if you want to regain the ability to connect to the Spore servers. The patch was released to update the game to use new server certs, as the old ones expired. I'm pleasantly surprised that they didn't just take the opportunity to shut the game down, honestly.

Unfortunately, it was not released for the Disk version of the game, and if installed on the Origin version, is detrimental to mod compliance, much like Steam/GOG Spore have always been.

On the bright side though, being unable to have Steam users migrate to Origin forced us to look a proper fix to Steam Spore's non-co-operative-ness, which I quickly found...in the form of a trick I'd been using for other purposes for years prior. I never realized it fixed Steam ._.

Anywaves, now, many mods are being updated accordingly, and this fix addresses both Steam/GOG Spore and Patch 7 Origin Spore, without even cutting backwards-compatibility. It seemed too good to be true, and it was, in a way.

It created a ripple effect, where...I don't quite know how to properly explain this, so I'll use a hypothetical example instead. Let's say you have two mods: For sake of discussion, we'll call our two hypothetical mods, !EmpirePeaceMod and !!SpaceLasers. Previously, these two mods conflicted, but the user could re-prioritize !EmpirePeaceMod above !!SpaceLasers to resolve this issue. Let's say that Patch 7 now goes and breaks !!SpaceLasers, but !EmpirePeaceMod still works. If !!SpaceLasers was updated for Patch 7, then due to the nature of the fix, it would no longer be possible to prioritize !EmpirePeaceMod above the updated !!SpaceLasers. This can only be resolved by also updating !EmpirePeaceMod. Now let's say !EmpirePeaceMod gets updated too. There could be six other mods that only work if prioritized above !EmpirePeaceMod, and they'd all have to be updated as well. Odds are, eventually you'll reach a point where a mod is affected, and thus needs to be updated, but the mod's developer has forbidden derivative works of any kind, and has also left the modding scene several years ago. That mod is now...basically dead in the water, atleast for use in conjunction with other mods. Thankfully, there aren't many mods in that situation.

So that's basically everything you could possibly want to know about Patch 7. If you actually want it, here's how to get it:

STEAM: You already have it, unless you've disabled automatic updates for Spore. If so, allow the game to update.

GOG: Pretty sure it's the same deal...might have something to do with GOG Galaxy though, idk.

Origin: Backup your Creations and Save Data, then fully uninstall and re-install the game. You'll automatically be installing the game with Patch 7 built-in.

Disk: Transfer your keys to Origin, then uninstall the Disk version of the game and install the Origin version in its place. If you have trouble with the key transfer, contact Origin support. Surprising as it may be, they're actually quite helpful, from what I've heard.

EDIT: GEEZ...sorry about the text wall, hadn't realized I'd typed that much .-.
