Have been cruising again.....just got back today. Paintings are on hold for a while whilst I change tack for a while....just enjoying myself messing around with metal and the lathe.....will get back to 'roper' work when things pick up and start selling again!

It got the juices flowing again but still on the different tack at the moment. S'funny, but on the last cruise there was a painting (oils) of stones similar to mine on the ship. It was also a huge painting. Need to gear up for a biggie when this damn recession is over and done with!!

Gads....I would never go with P&O again....they have this thing (sales gimmick) about art auctions on board and it is a total rip off. The guy does a presentation and reckons that galleries take a cut of some 400% so buying on board is so much cheaper....then they start the auction with an anonymous bid of $x and see if it can be beaten. I dread to think what the artist gets.....maybe look into how I can be a P&O artist????

Hi Simon......All is well....just got back from another cruise today. The painting is on hold for a while until things pick up....I had a slight change of direction and have gone back to model engineering for a while....bought a lathe and milling machine and am just enjoying messing around with metal. Have not been on dA much recently and every time I do there are so many things to reply to. Just got so far behind that I've almost given up replying. Must get back on more often.

I've always had an interest in steam engines and traction engines.....in the 70's I was involved in model engineering and built quite a large scale working steam traction engine. Railways were also a part of my life and dare I say it....I did paint railway subjects and was a member of the Guild of Railway Artists although, with a few others, we bucked the trend and painted railway subjects NOT trains!!!! Rust, oil and the general delapidation......
This time I'm indulging in a bit of railway modelling but to correct scale and building all my own track work. The wagons and locos are built from kits but modified to correct scale....
So that is where I am at the moment......just riding out this damn recession but enjoying myself.
I do have paintings in the pipeline....see the reply to Denis's above. Maybe make a start later in the year, need to boost the cruising fund!!
