Thanks for the advice. I will give it a try. Before I go, though, I need to get a telephoto (zoom) lens and a tripod, lol.

i don't use a tripod, it's a trait i've learned myself, then again a zoomlens (70-200mm or 70-300mm) is a very good idea, it makes the animalportraits more personal ^^ and with a soul

Good to know. But when I try to do a night shot I can't get it because I can't keep the camera still. I'm thinking a tripod would be helpful. Good info on the lens, too. Thanks!

with a nightshot xd i would suggest to use a tripod l0l xD it's almost impossible to get it sharp out of the hand. for the nightshot be aware that you don't overexpose it, it may sound a bit weird but people mostly do overexpose nightshots, try to keep the essence of the night in your photo and you'll be fine
