Once in a blue moon, that's for sure! Always when I finish a new project up (or a few weeks later, because I have to take all the pictures and put them together and everything, that takes quite a while too!). That is something I want to work on though, I always spend a crazy amount of time on one thing. I want to focus on going faster without a drop in quality. We'll see how that goes... Still don't know what my next project will be but I have some ideas!

Well there's this chart www.joesdump.com/wp-content/up⦠Pick two! There's nothing wrong with a slower pace because you put a lot of love and effort into your pieces. And i assume you're not a full time artist so you have some kind of day-job maybe that takes some time too! But i'm always happy when you upload something new or when you leave another 100 comments on my pictures because yours are always super throughful. I feel like i can learn a lot from your tutorials too especially from your armatures.

No problem! No need to thank me. It's such a little gesture. (I honestly don't really get it but it seems to be a thing that people do around here. I use it to mark if I have been to someone's profile before! There's so many people it's hard to keep track.)

Thank you very much! Honestly, I learned almost everything I know right here on Deviant art! I saw other artists make absolutely beautiful sculptures and thought it was really cool, but it all seemed so intimidating and complicated that I figured I could never do anything like that.
But then I started following other artists (especially emilySculpts and VIIStar , their work is amazing!)Β and they would show in-progress or WIP photos. When I could follow along and see how it was made from start to finish it didn't seem so scary any more and actually seemed like something I could do! I bought EmilySculpt's book which goes over the basics really well, and played around with little things for years before I posted anything on Deviant Art. Now I try to give back to all the sculptors who helped me along the way by making a gallery of all my in-progress stuff and everything I have learned along the way. It sure takes some time and patience at first but it is really fun!
Here's my WIP/sort-of-tutorial gallery if you would like to check it out!

Thank you! I have been planning to make another Spyro piece for a while (especially since they announced the remake for PS4!) But I am so busy with other things... Hopefully I will have time this year, yikes. That's a long time.

Thank you! Yes, no worries, I am doing fine! Just unfortunately got busy with a few other things that got in the way. I'm back now! Certainly not making things very quickly per usual but I definitely have my next two projects in mind and I've started on one already!
Hey, your eye patch is gone! Haha, yay!

You went on a comment rampage again, haha. Thank you a bunch but also don't feel obligated to comment so much. I appreciate it a lot tho!
Glad to hear you're back and have some projects for the future, i'm excited to see them. Take your time, there's a German saying that goes "the smart squirrel eats slowly".
And yes, i finally have two eyes

Haha yeah... I did a bit didn't I? I didn't really go into detail though so it didn't take me very long. But I kind of had to seeing as I was gone since maybe ...August? It's been a while, I had to catch up! It might be a little much but most everyone I met here has been super nice, especially you ^.^
In English we have a similar phrase, it's "Slow and steady wins the race." I think it comes from the Aseop's fable The Tortoise and the Hare. I like yours better though!

Aw it's always nice to interact with you and many people on here are not so talkative so im always super happy when someone leaves great feedback AND also shares their techniques!
"Slow and steady wins the race" does sound quite a bit more poetic than the squirrel thing tho

Your work is amazing and a you have a nice variety of model subjects.Β I also appreciate how much effort you have put into writing the detailed explanations to go with your sculptures, something that is often overlooked, but makes it much more interesting than just a photo.Β I try to do the same for my models but its hard to come up with much interesting to say.

Thank you so much! (Sorry, I just got your comment). It's rare when someone takes the time to comment on my profile and I really appreciate it! I am so glad you like the WIPs that I post. I have been following other sculptors for so long and most of the time I find them to be more interesting than the finished piece! I would never have known just how much work goes into one (or even what to do) if it wasn't for other people showing the world how they do it. So I am hoping to pass it on!

Aye, I enjoy WIPs and did consider uploading them at the time I did my original photos, but wasn't sure on the interest they would have.Β I have been taking extra photos and planning to upload WIPs for the model I'm currently working on though.Β Your WIP and main photos look professional with the customised borders and text. Did you use a collage program or make them by hand in photoshop or similar?
π: 0 β©: 1
WebsterWorks In reply to Claysan [2017-07-30 08:43:34 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! I am so glad that you enjoy my WIPs. I learned everything I know from other people posting their WIPs and tutorials, so I am trying to give back! Most of the time I find looking at how people made their sculptures even more interesting than the finished piece.
I actually use GIMP to make all my collages. It's basically a free photoshop. I have never used real photoshop so I don't know how it compares, but it does everything I need it to do, and it is quite easy to do more simple things. Maybe I'll make a tutorial about how I use it!

I was surprised to find so many great tutorials available, particularly for a subject so niche as polymer clay, and YouTube has been a good sourceΒ (I watched alot of PolymerClayTutor for basic polymer clay info, as I'm just a beginner).Β
So far, for model construction, I've prefered to experiment and try different techniques myself first (as a challenge and good sense of accomplishment if it works) and then go to the Web for help if not happy with my own efforts.Β I'm progressing more slowly but it's already a rewarding and fun journey in building up skills and I don't need to rush.
Thanks for the collage info. I was hoping that you had maybe found a versatile collage program, but looks like I'll be sticking with Photoshop for now.

I know! There is so much information out there, I truly don't know how anyone got things done before the internet. I certainly wouldn't have picked up this hobby. And your approach is quite interesting to me because I tend to be the exact opposite... I research as much as I can and do tons of planning beforehand. This sometimes causes me to have indecision paralysis (or something like that) where I fret about how to do something even though it would be much better to just give it a go and try it! It ends up with me making fewer and more ambitious projects, but I always try to learn something new every time!

Thank you so much for the watch and all the favorites! I haven't been doing much to get my name out there so it's not surprising haha.. but that makes it really nice when someone finds me! Just this week though I have started trying to get out there and meet other people. It's been so welcoming so far and I have people like you to thank for that! Thanks again!
