AW NO! Poor fishies. D: One of my fish died recently as well, poor guy had been sick for a while and we simply couldn't help him, but there was no signs of him in distress ever, he was just sick. :/

Long live Hercules though!

What was he sick with? My second to last fish before Herc got dropsy - he looked and felt like a pinecone! I felt soooo bad for him, there isn't any cure and he just kept getting more swollen until his internal organs popped... you could see them too because one day he had red spots. I felt sooo terrible for him because I couldn't really do anything to help.


I will be CRUSHED when Hercules dies! He has become my baby. He plays with me when I sit on the computer, and he always tries to attack anything that comes to close to his tank. He flares his gills at me when he sees me and he is hungry - and only then - too. He recently picked up a new trick where he blows bubbles and then attacks them - SOOOO cute!

Not quite sure, but it was as if he'd gulped down too much air because he went belly-up and spent the last, oh, two months of his life floating upside down. At first he'd only have troubles swimming to the bottom; he'd simply float back up to the top. Then it got worse and he couldn't even swim downward anymore. He could still eat fine, though. The people at Petsmart had no answer for us. x3

He had a swim bladder infection. I am very disappointed with PetSmart for not knowing that. The swim bladder is what keeps them boient (no idea how to spell it and neither does spell check) in the water, and when it gets infected or ruptures (very common in goldfish) they can't stay upright in the water and the float around. Feeding them peas help, but is not a cure all. Also making the fishie fast for a few days or so when it first becomes a problem so that it doesn't turn into a rupture which is unrepairable. For future refs... but its more common in goldfish and balloon mollies than any other fish because of the shape of their bodies.

He is! I spoil him too, which is sad - by buying him stuff to swim through. He jumps out of his water when he is hungry too. I love this fish! It's going to be a very, very sad day when he finally croaks!

Let's hope it is a very long time until Hercules goes. I'm down to five fish now, from eight, and the last one that isn't any type of bottom-feeder is Chip, and i got him at the fair years ago. I think it's pretty cool he's still alive, as he was always my favorite. And I shall never forget the information about the swim bladder infection, all of my friends and relatives thought it was so sad for him to be swimming upside down, and i couldn't do anything about it. i shall never forget!

Aw! bottom-feeders live for ever and ever you know! Are you going to be adding more fishes anytime soon or just keeping the ones you have for the time being?

PS: spreading the rumor that I might be bringing Abandon back - I am trying to get a discussion going on my DA journal and spread interest before I decided if I really want to undergo the project this summer.
