May I ask where? I'm going to apply for college soon, myself. Also, has the degree helped you beyond college? I have no idea what the demand for the skill is like, but I'm considering exploring it in college

Alberta College of Art & Design, though at the moment I woulden't recommend it. A year or so after I graduated they changed their accreditation associated with that program and now the degree you get is a Bachelor of Craft (Which sounds like you majored in macaroni paintings and macrame owls) rather than a BFA.
As for career prospects it's not a field I'd recommend unless you are a) very passionate about it and b) prepared to eat a lot of ramen and wait a lot of tables. Especially following the crash in 2009, it can be difficult to make a living.
Anyway, you can find me on Steam atΒ steamcommunity.com/profiles/76β¦ Feel free to add me if you'd like to chat!

Haha I did add you last year, actually! Just was a little daunted by the prospect of talking over chat.
Hmn I plan to pursue art as a career; who knows, maybe I'll end up making half a living from macaroni collages anyway
Thanks for your answer btw, it was very helpful.
What is it that makes you passionate about your craft, then?

lol, oops! My bad. I've got way too many people on there. Which one are you again? Also don't be shy. I'm terrible at conversation too, if that's your worry. But I like to talk with people.
Truthully I went to college to study illustration and character design. I wanted to work in video games, actually. Got there, first couple weeks decided it wasn't really blowing my skirt up as much as I expected, and the jewellery program was just where I ended up.
I enjoy it because I like to work with my hands. I've always made stuff since I was little; knitting, embroidery, beading, that kind of thing. learning to work metal just ended up being a natural next step for me. it's weird.

My ign is the same as my DA
Same, I like handicrafts and stuff, but not many colleges I've looked up seem to consider crafts a contemporarily relevant subject to offer.
Funnily enough I was considering illustration or character design too, or maybe fashion (also another risky area to go into).
Yeeeuch college decisions are scary. I don't actually know exactly what I want to do. Any college recommendations? I dont' know if actually going to college gives you a feel of it in comparison to other colleges.

Where are you located, anyway?
Also the BF studied illustration & character design. I can pass on his info if you'd like to chat about that.

Ha, thanks for making it! I've been looking for a nice viking knit tutorial for awhile

Eveqi In reply to bionic-dingo [2013-03-20 08:37:26 +0000 UTC]
My tutorial is for usage of two colors, so it might seem more complicated, but when you use only one color, you don't have to switch between them after every round, start making loops on each of the hooks, no skipping, then just go and make loops with wire around and around..
I think I made a mistake and should have posted single color viking knitting tutorial first

Hi! I saw your Pole Axe Hair Sticks around tumblr, took me a while to find where they came from since most of the photos floating around are unsourced... Anyway, they're absolutely gorgeous. I know you said they're not for sale, and you likely won't be mass producing them any time soon, but I was wondering if you would treat it any differently if I were to commission you for a pair?
π: 0 β©: 1
bionic-dingo In reply to ariabacon [2013-02-15 06:44:22 +0000 UTC]
Sadly they're not actually something I can make at the moment. I'm working on a slightly different version that I can hopefully sell a few pairs of. I'll post 'em around when I finally get my shit together. Glad you like them, though.

Are you still open for commissions? Do you have an etsy shop or how would that work?

bionic-dingo In reply to modernhoratio [2013-01-04 05:34:29 +0000 UTC]
Etsy, I should get around to that. ANYWAY, you can just send me a message and we'll chat. Hope to hear from you soon!

Yeah, add me to the list of people who someday want to see those pole arm hair sticks available. I know like 3 or 4 women that would immediately adore me if I made a gift of them. Excellent work.
