Hey man, what do you do to prevent paint flaking of, or damaged?
I just custom painted my lowrider and i accidently peeled of a bit when inflating the weels. Once it fell an scraped off paint on two places.
So is there any trick for protecting the paintjob?
Peace

Well, to start off, we used to use automotive paint (with a lot of clear coat) and now use industrial paint so I'd say go for the higher-end stuff or if you can afford it, powder coating. Plus we try to let the paint cure for a week after painting, I guess it depends in the paint job though. Get rubberized tools or make your own with do-it-yourself coating. That'll save your butt when putting your bike together and a tool slips and hits the paint. Also if you're modifying your bike (i.e. adding weight, changing dimensions) invest in a better kickstand. We eventually started making our own kickstands because regular ones couldn't handle the funky angles and strange stresses we were putting on them.

aight. Well i was a intern in a auto paintshop. so its auto color and clear coat. but i dont know it still feels so weak. the lowrider was all crome'd. maybe i didnt sand it good enough? the kickstands? shit tell me about it, thats how i got the two big scratches i mentioned. how did you make your own? mabye i'll turn it in somewhere or buy a new one. Hey, i'll let you know when i upload pics, she's a real beauty iam shore you'll love it.
Thanks a lot
/Daniel

Our process was this: sand with 400 grit (i think it was 400), wax/grease remover, primer, wet sand, base coat, flake, clear/candy, clear/pearl, clear, clear, clear. Not sure what the flash times were, I'm sure it says on the cans though. Good luck. As for the kickstands, we either modified existing ones to fit our needs or rebuilt existing ones with more hardcore parts. We didn't have the capabilities to build them from scratch.
