Hey! Yeah I have been bad recently, but I posted something today.

I did post more on instagram, and will try to get back on track with my daily drawings tomorrow.

I did do something but it turned into a bigger piece because I decided to fully paint it. 😅 So I have to finish it today.

Hey, Natasha - I wanted to add this to the string where we talked about gesture.  Can't find the string (did you delete the picture?) so I'll put it here for you.  youtu.be/pa_2rL1K1mg  Don't want to make you self-conscious about gesture; just sharing.  "Feel the Flow.  Feel the flow.  Feel - the - flow!" -- Glenn Vilppu

Ah.  I sympathize.  When I worked for city gov't I used to be on forced overtime.  I HATED it.

Yeah lately I have had training so my shifts keep getting swapped around, also struggling painfully to stay awake during the days since I did night shift for so long.

Whoa!  Beats manufacturing!  Haha.
That's a cool job - oriented to observing people.  Chance to study faces, posture, mannerisms, everything in which the artist takes interest.
Before I became a Psychologist, I worked as a prison guard, psychiatric nurse, social worker, exercise instructor, camp counselor for kids with disabilities, investigator etc.  The main purpose was to observe - and not just the patients and customers . . . the organizations and management by which they were served.  It gave me perspective on the entire social system.  Which is why I became a recluse.  Haha.  But it fed me well for writing fiction and doing art.  I can live off the fat of that for the rest of my life.
Soak it up.  It will feed your creative spirit.  It's grist for the mill.

Bummer.  Nothing's better for training skill at observation than drawing.  Still, just taking the time to study what you're looking at - drawing it in your mind - makes a positive impact on ability.

That should pose a challenge.  I mean, you should take it as a challenge to overcome.

The nice thing about that kind of challenge is that you can overcome it in an instant!  It's not a matter of not being able to do something (like bench press 400 lbs) or do a Rubic's cube in ten seconds.  It's just a matter of focusing your mind, making a clear intention and following through.  In short, it's doing what you don't like to do, or don't want to do.  You just do it and, viola!  There you are, past the obstacle, now, and whenever you like. That's the kind of discipline you're developing in martial arts.  Make it work for you in all areas of your life.    Courage!

Yeah you're right, I have been trying to develop the "just do it" kind of mentality recently since before I let fear stop me. Lately, after I read that book I mentioned (the subtle art of not giving a f*k) I try to keep it in mind. Might do a day out and draw people tomorrow.

Don't understand why you put your work in scraps, instead of gallery.

Just a confidence thing I guess, still takes a lot for me to post on DA at all since I am still a bit shy about my work,  You are right though I should start posting in my main gallery.

Sol-Caninus In reply to coderie [2017-03-21 15:20:05 +0000 UTC]

confidence begins with accepting what is - yourself, as you are, your ability, as far as it goes up to this point - and setting out from there. It's the journey that counts.  Put your faith and energy in the process.  Don't worry about the product.  The product is just a bread crumb to mark your path for those who are interested in following your progress.

I think you'll be delighted in a year from now to review your gallery pieces.  Instead posting my best work I used to make a habit of posting the problem pieces, the one's that didn't work, and everything that showed the seams.  It proved very helpful, since one learns more from mistakes and "failures" than successes.  (That's science! friends.  XD  And it applies to skill training of all sorts. ) Embrace imperfection; put it to work for you.

hehe, I hope so, it is hard to change my personality though so I am just slowly trying to build my confidence by posting more and more.

Sol-Caninus In reply to coderie [2017-03-24 15:29:33 +0000 UTC]

Posting, yes.  Also, deliver critique.  This is probably the number one confidence builder, if you can be relatively objective about it.  You start to see the work of others closer up and your own work farther away.  Eventually, it's all the same to you.  You see a problem, analyze it, come up with the solution and apply it.  Doesn't matter who authored the work, you, or someone else; doesn't matter if it's the work of a beginner, or a seasoned professional.

The basis of critique is knowledge, not skill.  One helps guide and develop the other.
