Probably in response to something you posted on my page in response to my huge posts below?

If not, I don't know, sorry.

OK, time to report back with some fantasmic classic Who DVD stats. Ready? Let's go!

Hartnell has 7 stories out on DVD. I own 5, or 71%. Not bad going. I'm only missing Web Planet (I want it, but it's far overpriced compared to others) and Time Meddler (too new, not cheap enough!)

Troughton only has 4 still. Not that surprising. I have them all, and any Troughton story they're likely to release (e.g. The War Games) I would buy brand new. In addition to those two there's Lost in Time, which I of course have.

Pertwee has 9 titles. While he seems neglected, that actually leaves him in third place for number of releases. Considering several of his stories are deliberately being held back, waiting in case of technological developments in restoration, that's not too bad. I only own 5, or 56%. Of course, Bred For War and Beneath the Surface becoming cheap will take that up to 89% -- much more satisfactory.

Tom Baker has by far the most, of course, with a whopping 24 stories out! Of which I own 12. Which, as I'm sure you can see, is 50%. I blame sheer volume for the lowliness of his collection (and I still own more Tom DVDs than I do any other Doctor).

Davison is second, with 10 stories out. I own 8 -- or (can you guess?) 80%. I simply haven't gotten round to The Visitation yet, and the other is of course in Beneath the Surface (I'm not counting the original Five Doctors DVD here, as I'll never ever buy it. Ever. Unless it's £1 maybe, for the sake of curiosity.)

Colin Baker is notoriously almost completely out, but that only adds up to 6 stories (9 if you prefer to count Trial as 4). And yet, I own the least for him! Just 2, or 33%. And one of those is Timelash. I'm deliberately leaving Varos cos I reckon they'll re-release it sometime, Trial I'll get ASAP cos I like it, Two Doctors is now in Bred For War for me, and that only leaves Rani so...

And finally, McCoy. As neglected as Pertwee, he only has 4 stories out, of which I have 100%. And I do so like McCoy, and so will snap his up on release also.

The problem with McCoy is, there's TOO MUCH STUFF for extras. I remember with fondness/annoyance the tale of when a 5th Doctor DVD fell through, and they wanted to do Bannerman or some other 7th Doctor to quickly fill the gap, but they found there was too much available to do it justice in such a short time and so knocked out Mark of the Rani instead. Ah, what larks!

For one thing, they want to do 5.1 remixes on all his stories, and of course by then everyone was taping news pieces and continuities and trailers, and I'm sure they want to do original documentaries too. Season 24 will be interesting, actually -- it's so unpopular they can't expect sales of most of it (except Dragonfire), but there'll still be loads of stuff for extras. We shall see.

And I've witted about McCoy for ages cos there's nowt to say about McGann, obviously. Though I do think the TVM is very deserving of a re-release, personally. I'm sure they could do a 5.1 mix, a retrospective commentary (McGann would be keener to be involved now), plus new documentaries -- again, retrospectivey, but a nice big one on the 8th Doctor's continuing adventures would be nice (after all, across novels, audios and comics he's done LOADS).

When it was released first time round the TVM was only 5 years old; now it's 12! That's as old as Remembrance was when it hit DVD (God, that's a scary thought ) I suspect/hope it might get a special edition for it's 15th anniversary in 2011, if not sooner (say if McGann turned up in the new series )

OK, now I'm really done. It was fun to witter

I would witter about this on MSN, but as you're not there I shall do it here.

1) I just got Carnival of Monsters and The Leisure Hive for £4.99 each Part CD-WOW cheapness, part having a stack of £1 vouchers (if you want some I have literally dozens. They all run out on something like the 11th though).

2) I also ordered Black Orchid from them, for £5.99 (£2 voucher, plus if you click through to CD-WOW from [link] you automatically get a £1 discount on most DVDs and 50p on most CDs. Shiny!)

I wasn't going to bother with Black Orchid (not til it was cheaper, anyway -- I do intend to get all the Who DVDs eventually), but the DWM preview did it's job and I got all excited by it. Plus I had nothing better to spend that voucher on before Friday, so it seemed worth it.

3) I pre-ordered K9 Tales too. Only £11.69 with my student discount. I reckon places will start charging more once they realise it's RRP £29.99 not £19.99, so I mainly wanted to get in there before it goes up. Plus, for no sensible reason, I've always wanted to see K9 & Company but never got round to it on VHS.

Mmm, four/five new Who DVDs. It's like a little celebration of it coming back! Plus I own criminally few Pertwees... though there are criminally few released... I expect I'll pre-order Bred For War sometime too. With Beneath the Surface I'm waiting for the price to drop, but as BFW is just a compilation of existing stuff I'm not sure it will ever drop much (the Amazon-exclusive ones like that never really did). Plus it's out just after my birthday, so I'll have the cash for that, and the about-£28 price tag online is pretty darn fair for four stories / five discs. Only reason I'm waiting is to see if certain shops cut the price a bit more -- with HMV I could get 10% more off, and with Sendit I could actually get it free as I have a pile of vouchers for them. But I'm an opportunity cost kinda guy, and £28-real-money is better than £33-vouchers in my book.

Anyway, enough DVD wittering... except it isn't, cos I'm now going to do some research into how my collections of each Doctor are shaping up. I'm sure I'll report back

coolositymax In reply to badblokebob [2007-09-11 13:15:12 +0000 UTC]

So I'm then supposed to tag a bunch of other people? But you know I don't KNOW any other people. Therefore, as I cannot complete that final stage, it isn't worthwhile doing the earlier stages either

badblokebob In reply to coolositymax [2007-09-19 23:27:35 +0000 UTC]

I thought I had that problem... til I tagged a bunch of people who weren't ever likely to do it anyway ^_^

Doooood!

Did you actually sign up for Script Frenzy, by-the-by? I tried searching for you in case but you weren't there.

Also, just loaded up Celtx for the first time. Ooh, Script Frenzy ad on it! And apparently they've added a word count function (somewhere), just cos of Script Frenzy asking. Lovely. Now, to actually try using it...

badblokebob In reply to badblokebob [2007-05-26 01:30:49 +0000 UTC]

Ok, I've now been fiddling with Celtx for a while, and it's brilliant! Having all the different features within one project file (e.g. character bios, scene breakdowns, plain text files, etc etc) means I compile all of my outlines and notes in one place, instead of having dozens of documents! And I can do it all on my Mac now too!

(Before Celtx, not only would I have had dozens of documents, but most of the random notes would've been on my Mac while the actual screenplay would've been on my PC, cos of where my script software was. Doubly irritating!)

In short, Celtx rocks!

I have read through all your humor stories and have enjoyed them all, especially your Arnold the fish detective series! I would comment on all of them but I have developed a serious cramp in my wrists from writing so much! I will hopefully comment on them in the near future! For now I will just write this comment for I am suffering a great deal of agony! Anyway, good work and I hope to see more soon!

I'll be keeping an eye on you!
