Cheers for the postage! In the intervening period 'twixed my sending the tip about the unity-pbr-themes and the present Andrew from webupd8 has written a simple script that allows you to install/switch-between/revert to Ambiance with the click of a button and a quick logout/login.

Another advantage is that it replaces the Ambiance gtkrc as well so sudoed apps will theme properly.

Fair enough. The script has failed for a couple of people anyway. They ended up successfully using the method you posted. On a side note Great work with the blog.

just thought I'd tell you about the mockups I've made for my idea for window menus. They're not that great, thouhg I'd like someone to see them, but I don't know who or where I'm meant to put them

But you're high profile in the ubuntu community so you might be able to get them seen. Even if everyone hates them.
