Because trolling or not, unless Witchpaws is involved and aware of it, this is all rather rude.

And while I will agree that bullying can result from addressing art theft, I feel very strongly against art theft and can feel little remorse for someone who willingly steals from another artist.

Parody or not, art theft isn't something to joke about and I'll find no humor in it unless the original artist is in fact involved.

Perhaps, but it is also not someone's place to copy and disgrace another person's work of art. It's a very gray area on either end, and as someone who has been on the side of stolen artwork multiple times in the past-- and seen it occur to close friends as well-- I have no sympathy whatsoever for theft or the people behind it.

While two wrongs don't necessarily make a right, letting someone off with a pat on the back when they are purposefully doing something to harm another person-- or doing something, knowing it will harm another individual-- doesn't fly so hot either.

I don't believe in people being cruel to one another without provocation, but my desire for civility ends once provocation has been dealt. There are consequences for every action, and negative commentary from peers is one of them. Civil language should be preferred and preserved where possible, but I feel it equally important to recognize that you cannot always handle matters with kind discussion and cushioned words (whether or not this issue was one of them is open to debate, however. I will not say that it was.)

It is one thing when someone ignorantly harms another person, but when it is done purposefully and for self gain, it is another thing entirely.

i just got called a 'bitch' and a 'whore' and misgendered over someone parodying a made up species of dog on deviantart. this is not a matter of 'kind discussion and cushioned words' and it feels like you're trying to excuse it? i'm not really sure if you fully understand what happened or if you just saw my screencap on tumblr and came to express your feelings on stealing art as a whole, but i don't... really think you understand this specific situation hahaha

besides the somewhat irrelevant contest i completely agree with you on these points, and i wish that people handled this a lot better than they did.

I'm talking about art theft, people who steal art, and the retorts that they ultimately deal with for their actions. Anything not pertaining to those actions can be attributed to bullying. I specifically said "Addressing potential art theft and copying is not necessarily bullying" because many people attribute simply calling out an individual on art theft and asking them to remove the copied material as bullying and this always bothers me.

Most of the comments I saw directly to this troll account-- or at least the parent comments-- were not malicious. It seems to me that they only became malicious in lower comments when the charade was dragged on and people started to grab at straws. 

I fully agree that those comments were then crude and unnecessary, but I'll also say that carrying on with the running joke doesn't help the matter.

Apologies for being a bit brash, but art theft gets me extremely worked up and I especially don't like seeing it used for comedy-- particularly at the expense of an artist not in on the joke.

I'm sorry that you had to deal with abuse, regardless of the situation-- being misgendered is particularly disgusting and should never be used for leverage. 

I'm also sorry for butting in and throwing more negativity into the mix where it was not needed. My distaste for art theft runs high, and I often let it get the better of me.
