Design jobs in the UK pay quite well if you get in with a good firm, usually however they want minimum of 3 years experience in a studio first and you have to know ILlustrator, Photoshop etc..sometimes Quark too. There are TONS of design students in this country too who are going for all those jobs so competition is harsh and London is an expensive city to live in, housing and everything is way more expensive there than in the rest of the UK. So you will need to be earning a good yearly wage to even stay there, plus you'll need transport....so it's not an easy thing to do but it is do-able.
I would try to get something lined up first before you move.

thanks for the advice mate. yeah i know my way around illustrator and photoshop pretty well, yeah i hear it is alot of cash to live in London, what is the rest of the UK like for graphics? thanks again.

It's basically the same situation everywhere, with differing costs for living. Design is one of the most popular courses to do for degree so there are thousands of students graduating every year looking for work. most run to london because its the capital but in reality nowadays you can work from anywhere because of the internet...unless you specifically want to work in a studio obviously.
Getting a job and making a living off any kind of art or design job is really hard because competition is high. EVERYDBOY wants to be a designer or thinks they can and you have to be better than all of them if you're going to get consistent work.
So basically, good luck and I hope you achieve it but it's really really hard.
