GrimeArtShop [2019-03-22 07:56:11 +0000 UTC]
Hey there... I have a website that I am trying to build into a brand that offers the world a ton more choices when they shop for full-color hoodies, unique t-shirts and apparel, and more...Β
I am on a limited income and don't have a lot of money, but I managed to pick up some pretty potent marketing skills in my spare time that is starting to generate traffic to my site...Β
Can I use creative commons images to sell on my hoodies and other items? If so where can I find the gallery of them> is that the one in here linked to your profile?
I have been asking the artists anyway because honestly, I don't want trouble and wouldn't even want people looking at me that way.Β
Let me know what you think... It would be nice to have everything decked out soon, my shop is just so skimpy now...Β
Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric, I'm not a lawyer and as a business, it would be best to contact a copyright lawyer to get yourself onto firmer ground.
This is what I know about creative commons:
Β 0. All works without a creative commons declaration should be considered All Rights Reserved, Don't use them!
Β 1. All works with the creative commons non-commercial (CC-BY-NC) should not be used.
Β 2. All creative commons licenses except for CC0/PD REQUIRE you to attribute the original author/creator. This means that your t-shirts must include the copyright, that they are CC images and even a link to the place where they can be found. If you don't attribute correctly, then you loose the right to use the artwork completely. These should be on the shirt and not just on the website.
Β 3. Do tell the authors. While it's not a legal obligation (except for some jurisdictions like Germany) morally it's good to let artists know and if they want you to remove the work or engaged in profit sharing, that's something you can consider as a moral obligation. It would be good of you to reward and supply resources to your suppliers as it will lead to future artworks.
Β 4. Use the highest quality work you can, no one likes their work to be badly reproduced as a low resolution jpeg.
Good luck and DO check out a lawyer, it's super important that you get proper advice as I'm only some guy on the internet with vague memories about how things work.

Hi doctormo, I saw your comments about creative commons licence, I have a question. How to add the logo cc licence on deviantart when you have the html link? Thank you.

doctormo In reply to LightSmoke [2016-04-12 22:30:23 +0000 UTC]
You need to select the cc license in the editing portion, right at the bottom of the edit screen is a button to add CC license. You don't use the html.

Oh good. I love hearing about users who have survived proprietary tools and moved away from them.

Hello my friend! Lately I have notice more and more works with different versions of the CC license (2, 2.5, 3, 4) and I am confused about if I can mix between them. Is there any info in a simply image out there? or I don't have to worry at all if I use the same license although it is different versions?
thank you

There are some good data on their website here: wiki.creativecommons.org/wiki/β¦
Mostly they're compatible in ways you'd expect. Use the highest version when you release. So a 3.0 and 4.0 derivative should be 4.0
Note this only applies to Share-Alike licenses; other licenses can be anything more restrictive than initial terms
See all compatibilities here: creativecommons.org/compatibleβ¦

Ah you found me.
As I type this, you should be on your way back to Boston. I have this amusing mental image of you receiving a message alerting you to my comment while you're halfway over the Atlantic.

If only I had taken advantage of the WiFi on the aeroplane. Instead I'm stuck at JFK airport with a 5 hour delayed flight to Boston.

Ouch. So you not only had to leave the UK on the redeye special, but spent an extra 5 hours in transit. Make sure you massage those legs and avoid DVT.
