or do what banks do - make the art out of lines, the lines being comprised of your very name. Use digimarc and the likes to water mark your images, and if sombody wants a decent copy of a picture, make them reqest it by email. better still, make them pay for it.

It's really shit what they have done and all I really have to say is that you should look into seeing what a lawyer has to say about copyright and if anything can be done. You should also go about notifying the clients that they "did" the work for and explaining the situation to them.
