Right now I am primarily interested in painting, so I am hoping to try to get a degree in that.

Pratt has a foundation year, and its primarily meant to teach you basic techniques of composition, color theory, etc. and at the end of this first year, like most schools with foundation year, you get to choose a major, like illustration, graphic design, etc.

read more about the types of majors they offer, and see if you think you fit into a category. the main purpose of art school is to teach you technique, so you won't be stripped of your creativity.

I go to a residential art high school and I just finished my foundation year there, it's weird thinking I'll have to do it all over again in college. That's okay though, there is always room for improvement-especially with art. Thank you for the advice!
