I'm doing IB...it's ugly! I'm glad I didn't choose Physics, but I did choose Chem which is also very hard All I *really* like is the Art (4 students, and a teacher who likes to go on coffee breaks) EE will be a bitch. Basically that is life. Have fun
Happy New Year!

A couple of my art works were submitted to the Victorian IB art show, at the end of last year - the show opened this year. I still haven't gotten them back and my teacher said August. Grr.
They were pretty too. My best ones

hahaha, rofl, indeed. my friends and i used to joke about that a lot.
our ultimate comeback for anyone doing the normal school system here was 'someday, we will own you' or 'you'll be working for us'

well, it does have some definite advantages
the thing is, you can have a social life, you just fall a tad behind in your work

wow, i'm really glad i didn't do the IB, not because of this just because how miserable it sounds, only about 30 kids are doing it at my college as like a pilot scheme... and right from day 1 i got roped into it, i walked into the college and got seperated from all my friends.
it's not a cool course.. sure the challenge must be nice and it will pay off with a university place and lots of money.
but where is the social life? where is the love?
i kinda liked the look of it but i really suck hard at the maths.. so i gave it a miss,

Mm gaselite is right. It is a good course, and in Aust, especially Victoria, the advantages are very clear. The marking up compared to the local system is just unbelievable.
And I made it thru with a respectable grade and a lot of partying and hangovers and not too much work.
The love is in the close classes and I maintained basically all the same teachers throughout the two years, so there was love there. Plus we were favoured above the 'normal students' and got more attention from all the teachers, plus better facilities... coz the teacher thought they could trust us more.
okay i'm done.
I went to a boarding school, so I managed friendships with people who weren't in IB with me because of the close proximity of all the studies in the house.

ah that's cool, at our college the resources aren't as great.. and some classes have as little as 3 people, which is good for some but i don't like the lack of atmosphere if you know what you mean.
the UK is pretty well known for having one of the best school systems in the world, many people from around the world come to study at our universities.
for years we've had a-levels and that's pretty much standard, everyone in the UK does them if you want a good kind of job.
at the college it's really good, and one of the best in the country, that's why we're pilotting the IB program, you do get a lot of friends and good ones too, just not as many because you're so segregated.
if it were a bigger pilot i would have taken part, i wouldn't have felt like a guinea pig, but the guy : girl ratio was just terrible.
on the first day everyone introduced themselves and it was like "hi i'm laura i like classical music and visiting classic museums.".. when it got to me it was like "hi i'm spence, i like eating and i'm probably the most uncultured person you'll ever meet"
that's probably the case that you do get better treatment from teachers, but i decided to stick with a-levels because i could choose more interesting things, and go into more depth.. for instance i was interested in medicine so i took a vocational a-level in health and social care along with biology chemistry and english which were base subjects on the IB.. and i'm also picking up the equivalent to your TOK/EE next year in critical thinking/general studies.. just i don't have to do maths
it is so true, the IB students definately know how to party.. where as curiculum 2000 students don't really take advantage of their free time.. for instance i have a friend on the IB who has a ton of work this summer, but she still parties so hard.

Hahahaha, yeah, I really hated TOK actually. And thought I would do badly at maths but ended up topping the class for the first year (this is sl) and then all the hl kids moved down to our class, but i still ended up with a 5.
Physics was worse. I really shouldn't have done that. hahaha. Iiiii'm an idiot.
And yes, the a-levels are a good system, or so I hear, unlike the local system here, which is ABSOLUTELY CRAP. I mean, I'm biased towards IB, course, but it's not a very good system at all - it doesn't encourage actual thinking and extended studies really and pursuing particular interests, but expects a kid to fill in a box, really, like, there's one right answer with every subject and all they have to do is write what the examiners want to hear.
I dont' know, it's really basic and stupid and people can just do like 5 art subjects plus english.
I realise that like the schooling system doesn't suit everyone, but I just think people are giving up if they drop out. What a crock of shit. That's why I don't respect most australians... XD
Anyway, that was severely off-topic.
But yeah, we did take advantage of our free time, and I'm still close with a lot of the people in my IB course, which is great. And it's kind of fun to know that kids all over the world are probably struggling with the same physics topic, or maybe the same english text or something.
