just read your journal port "Accidents" - you hit one of the big one. when i was a paramedic - nothing scares you as much as a car or truck flying by just inch from you.

to give a scale of fear, I had a patients roommate take a loaded 30-30 rife and stick to my chest, it didn't phase me anywhere near a truck passing inches from my butt did.

Β i have seen people hit and killed by careless drivers - it is not a sight one can forget. in my day we did have any where as near the number of cell phone - if driver would just slow down, and pay attention to their driving when coming upon an emergency vehicle.

be see and be safe

Thank you for the watch, and for the comment.

I had a question on your name. Is USCG for U.S. Coast Guard?

If so, you and my dad have very similar career paths. He was a volunteer firefighter, then in the USCG. When he was in Florida, he was an EMT for the local hospital, and now he's a police officer.

Actually, that is very similar. I joined the Coast Guard right out of high school (I was in when I created the user name)then became a firefighter part time when I got out. I also am an EMT, and work as an EMT in the ER for my local hospital. I also do part time work as a contract EMT covering race tracks, concerts and other special events, and I work with a railroad in the emergency management department.

That's kind of cool.

Currently, he works for the local sheriffs department where I am from.

One thing that is for sure, he is never at a loss for interesting stories...

I'm sure you are the same way?

I give him respect for his service to community and to our country.

I am not sure how interesting they are, but I have accumulated stories over my career of the different things I had the pleasure or misfortune of seeing and doing at my various jobs, from helping with brain surgery to riding a train as it derailed to escorting a floating crashed airplane as it was towed up a river to making a few rescues and seeing the very best and worst people, sometimes in the same day. I am sure your dad could relate to many of these.

I thank you greatly. I served this country in the military. I did not agree with everything, but I can honestly say that during my service I was able to improve this country. I had the opportunity to save the lives of many innocent civilians, many of whom were U.S. citizens. I was able to protect property, much of which was owned by common citizens such as you and I, and I was able to prevent those that could and would do harm from doing so. Not every branch of the military is able to serve on U.S. soil and make a positive impact, but I was lucky enough to do so. I can also say that I never deprived someone of life or liberty without due process according to the law.

And for that I salute you! I just posted my own Memorial Day tribute to my father who served in the Pacific Theater. He died before I really got to know him but he served his country and was an honorable man and railroader until his untimely demise... War is never easy but you don't always have a choice. If not for heroes in 1941-45...Nazis could rule the world!
