Hi Mike -- thanks for the watch -- I am not doing them anymore -- I like the old way best & I am doing it -- I go through name of who is watching me & then go into their gallery & pick the pieces I want to comment on if that is OK with you -- it was one of the reasons I changed names -- take care -- Nancy

Hi Mike,
I have brought up a Piece that you will find very interesting -- I can now blow awork all they way up and you will not lose the moon in the dark black sky -- it is truly a new way to approach this problem with finding the Moon -- I have been thinking about doing a Piece Just once for the New Moon Cycle -- Guess what it is -- A Completely Black Retangular -- You cannot see a new moon -- how cionceptual can I get -- let me know what you think about it please.
take care & thanks for all your help
Nancy

Hi Mike,
I have tired your suggestion and it works for word pieces and alos the moon ones -- the Museum Series,
My Story & Fromthe Ashes it will not work on cuz they have to be blown up to see all that is going on in them.
Thank you so much.
Go and see the two I brought up that way -- I have a triangle piece that I could not use it on though.
I guess it depends upon what you meke.
than you is not good enough I know but that is all I have to offer besides saying I do like what you taught me.
Take care My Friend -- You See I am open to criticism and it worked perfectly -- thank you -- we must do this some more -- it helps us grow

Did I ever reply to your message? I forget to check these comments. I made over 160 houses in the end. I was wondering about publishing the file so anyone whop wants to can make their own. What do you think?

Not much interest, I'm afraid. I have done quite a bit of work towards the idea though and I may do some more in the next week or so. It's turning out to be more work that I expected.

For my degree show, instead of having some business cards printed, I took the 160+ paper houses I made earlier in the year, stuck name & e-mail address labels on the base and gave them away. They went very quickly and people seemed very pleased to take home part of an artwork rather than just a business card from the local print shop. Some have travelled the 250 or so miles to London. I don't know of any going further than that.
I have been wondering about publishing a PDF file of the paper house so anyone can print it out and make their own. I would be great to have them far & wide, particularly far away around the world. Does anyone reading this like the idea? Would people like to make a house and perhaps send me a message so I can see how far they go?
They are pretty easy to make, needing just a modelling knife & double sided tape. The finished house comes out 5x5x5cm (2x2x2 inches).

Oh! I just saw your message. How did I miss that?! I don't think these comments appear in the message centre. Glad you like my gallery. I made over 150 of the paper houses. They took about 10-15 minutes each once I got the hang of it. Yeah, SketchUp is great. Very pleased to see it is now free. I got a one-year student price. Now I won't have to pay again when the sub runs out.

It is now about six weeks to the opening of the degree show and the end of four years at art college. I've enjoyed being a student and have learnt a lot about myself as well as a bit about art. The degree show is scary -- my first significant public showing of my work. I don't have enough ideas for work yet (who does?). I'm still getting a lot of mileage out of houses and reflected colour, but I'm still not sure where this is leading.
The idea of not being a student and going back to working isn't as horrible as I thought it would be. I hope I can get another job in IT which will mean a reasonable income. I may work part time and start my Ma right away. If I find a _really_ well paind job, I might work full time to save up for a house. That is probably the only way I will own my own place again as I'm too old for a large mortgage.

One last thought. If you get Painter, you will probably want to get a Wacom tablet & pens, so look into it. And look into special combo offers. There may be one going on right now until the end of August.
The tablet isn't absolutely necessary, but gives more control and feel of traditional painting. I use both tablet and mouse.
If you have further questions feel free to contact me.

What size tablet would I need? What size do you use? I just looked at the prices. Luckily, I was sitting down at the time. Holy smoke, those suckers are expensive. Even the A6 one is $$$ and that's about the size of a post card. Is that big enough to be any use? Sounds far too small to me.

I have an Wacom Intuos 3 6x8. That is sufficient for my needs and I love it. Yes, very expensive. That's why it took me 6 years to get to the point of purchase. I'm very happy I did. Before you buy, see if you can find a store that has one or a friend, etc. and get a feel for the size in relation to your work. But don't forget you can zoom in on area's you work on so you may not need more than 6x8.
Best Wishes,
Suzanne

Thanks for the advice. I'm downloading the demo version of painter at the moment. I'll see if someone I know has a tablet I can try. There may be some at college in the gfx dept, but they may all be huge expensive ones. We'll see...

I actually use a mouse most of the time. The tablet is great for doing more detailed work or for sketching and drawing.
Best wishes with Painter. I will tell you that it sometimes it crashes when too much memory is in use & competing with Painter. Corel knows of the problem. They have an update, but that too has some issues that they are working on. I didn't download the update.
Just play around with it and see if it will meet your needs. I use it alot even with the crashes. I also have a lot of filters loaded and those may be the biggest crash prone items.
Have fun,
Suzanne

Thanks for the tip. There are some good deals on [link] , but sadly no tablet package at education prices. I'll shop around some more.

Mike, sorry to be so late in responding. No, I didn't find Painter IX to be difficult to learn. I started with it at the end of March of this year. I'd never had any digital painting experience before. I love the program and would encourage you to get it and go....
You create wonderful paintings and I love your style. The best thing about Painter, besides the natural paint medium effects, is that "undo" and layering capability, both of which defeated me in traditional painting. No I can express myself without the frustration.
Best Wishes,
Suzanne
