Hallo! I just wanna say that I love how your work is both super detailed, but also it allows the eye to get lost and travel around the entire image.
A lot of times too I've seen too much complexity lose the view, but you do an amazing balance of it all! Looking forward to your new work~

Thanks! It's harder for digital artists not to get lost in detail, and I'll admit I fool myself more often than not. But I'm glad to hear you like it!

love your work and your intellectual commentary! Do you have a background in art history at all? I've done a fair bit of study in renaissance/baroque art so I can definitely appreciate the angle you take with your works. In any case I love your vibe and am looking forward to more art!

Ooh, thanks - and yes. I've had to be picky and twist some projects my way in the past, but I've had the opportunity to research the medieval period on the side, a little. I can definitely see the Baroque in your work, but the lustrous colours are a few steps above what I've seen, haha. Only thing I've really researched in terms of Baroque art were Jacques Callot and Rosso Fiorentino, but I've been nurturing an interest in the early Renaissance. Visiting Florence soon!

that's awesome! I know more about the Italian Renaissance and Baroque art, particularly in Venice and Florence, but I've also studied a little bit of medieval stuff as well, mostly French.
The thing about the early modern period is that it was so vast!! and whatever was happening in one country was different in another, there is seriously so much to learn. I think artwise my interest lies in the 16th and 18th century work. Well spotted - it's true, my art has ended up as a combination of desudesu anime with appropriated baroque motifs... I also blame FFXII, Akihiko Yoshida has made a huge influence on my design choices.
Very interesting, Callot's work became quite iconic for lots of artists and authors, for example the French poet Aloysius Bertrand in the 19th century. His work is fascinating, it might be interesting for your aesthetic interests. Check out Gaspard of the Night — Fantasies in the Manner of Rembrandt and Callot or if you speak french: Gaspard de la Nuit, d'Aloysius Bertrand
Ohh you'll love it! Definitely check out the Uffizi and drool over everything, especially the ceiling frescos. Don't forget to look up! The architecture is really beautiful too... haha you got me here dreaming of Italy again.

One thing I found really interesting about Early Modern was Dürer’s perspective on the South-North-divide around 1500. And how the period was later viewed, for instance by the Nazarens. In general, historicism is a captivating subject. 19th century pathos plays into it, I guess. It gets entertaining, some of it. I have to admit that I’m a bit more infatuated with the Quattrocento, but maybe that’s because I am such a William Morris / Burne-Jones fanboy.
I will enjoy the Uffizi, naturally, but I’m also hoping, besides the other obligatory destinations, to have a peek at the Museo Stibbert. Even if for the armor alone. And how will I resist prancing through the Boboli Gardens until they throw me out? Soon I will know.
Your recommendations have of course been saved. Sorry for taking such time, but I currently have to completely rewrite an old paper that I wrecked.

Ah that's very interesting! I don't have an in depth understanding of Dürer, so this is new information to me. Time to google it hehe..
The thing about the 19th century is that there were so many schools of thought in constant evolution, each trying to outdo the other: Romanticism, Naturalism, Decadence... each of these movements have their own stories and key figures! It's amazing to see how the literature and art evolves. William Morris' work is the best, I'm seriously in love with it!
They sound like incredible destinations, I hadn't already known about the Museo Stibbert and the Boboli Gardens. I feel like your itinerary will be really interesting. After your trip it would be cool to know what was really worthwhile for you. I'll have to save those for the next time I travel.
That's ok, I understand. Best of luck with your paper, I've definitely been there...

I agree with you about the movements and their correlations. The twentieth century can be equally interesting, but the art it made, the Cold War tensions, the trauma, the abstract strokes . . . it’s pretty tough and can get confusing. I know it’s so naive but 19th century things sometimes read a bit more like stories from a different time.
I’ve got to apologize for the long time it took me to finally write this. In fact, I had most of it already done and kept and kept forgetting it, occasionally thinking that it was already way too late to reply normally . . . But I did it. Sorry. It’s a bad habit.
The trip was . . . well, exhausting is one word! Five days, barely any sleep, unbearable heat . . . I really regret a few things, such as not booking the duomo tickets in advance - you can only climb the cupola if you have a special ticket. Logical, the stairs are very narrow. That ticket also includes the Campanile, though it can be booked separately.
Secondly, not trying to contact the Uffizi about their print and drawing collection ahead of time. It’s not available to the public, maybe I would have somehow got in as a researcher, haha.
I was forced to miss some museums that one really ought to see: Casa Buonarotti, Bargello and perhaps the da Vinci museum if you’re entertaining non-art friends, as I had to. And of course there’s things like the archeological tour for the duomo and the peripheral tours for Palazzo Vecchio or smaller, less well-known museums strewn throughout, such as the Medici Chapels.
What we saw was the Palazzo Pitti, the Uffizi, Accademia, Boboli Gardens and Palazzo Vecchio. I distinctly remember them all as great, but the splendour repeats and repeats itself so much that you run the risk of feeling worn out. Fortunately, the Boboli Gardens are a sight for sore eyes in any weather. There’s neat labyrinth-like hedges that must be 4m high or even higher, plenty of stimulating contemporary sculpture and even a small exhibition space with some electric fans. The fans being almost as wonderful as the exhibit about the Trajan Column. At least that was on display at the time.
A while back, I made a pdf for some friends that even came with an accompanying text with descriptions for individual pictures. I could note it to you if you’re interested, it’s over a hundred pictures I think.
