Thanks for the fav on INKTOBER 24: Dizzy - The walls are melting...
Which just goes to show you that you should never build your home from margarine. I know, I know, I should have sprung for a more expensive construction material, like butter, but with the drought, and the rising cost of milk, butter was just a little outside my price range. I blame my contractor. He told me that Canola was just as structurally sound as butter but contained half the fat, and since I’m not a qualified organic engineer, I believed him. And, there goes the bathroom. Dammit. At this rate, I’m not going to have enough of a house to spread on my toast in the morning.

Thanks for the llama
I knew a llama once. At least I thought I knew him. I mean, how well can anyone really know anyone, much less a llama. With their air of mystery and thinly veiled contempt. It’s hard. But I digress.
His name was Kevin. But for reasons I will never understand, he would only ever answer to Albert. Identity issues aside, things started out okay. The usual introductory sniffing and sneezing went well, despite his allergies, but then things started going downhill during the ritual licking phase of the pleasantries. We pushed through. And had it not been for the spitting, we might have even been able to make it work, but alas, after just 3 seconds of bittersweet brotherhood, we finally decided to part ways. It’s kind of sad, when you think about it. Spitting seems like such an innocent thing to fight over, but he was pretty adamant that I should stop and that was just never going to happen. We might have overcome that issue, but Kevin, like all llamas, was very competitive. First came the stench competitions. Then it was belching contests. And lastly, a painstaking count to see which one was hairier. You can clearly see why our relationship was doomed. The poor fellow was a bit of a sore loser.
So he snuck out, taking with him a failed friendship, an obliviously optimistic dread of the future, and my sixth favorite toothbrush. Now that he is gone, I can honestly say, it's for the best. He was too much of a chick magnet anyway and who needs that poultry drama?
Full disclaimer, as Kevin’s official biographer, a position of which he blackmailed me into (don’t ask), I’ve been instructed to inform you about his ongoing series. The journey starts here with The Kevin Chronicles - Chapter 1, and this gallery contains the rest. You should check it out.
*End of cue card*
And don't worry, they're pretty short.
No pressure though, only if you want.
Sorry about the late reply. Working on the backlog.

I knew some lamas once.
but they are long gone... knitted into sweaters and carded into cardigans and socks, and knotted into those funny looking south american hats with pompoms.
i miss them most on cold nights... and the cold nights have started already this year. their runny noses and smelly breathes... their constant cud chewing... the odd occassional patche of wool plugging the shower drain.
i was there when the last one was born. gooey afterbirth and wobbly legs. too many knees and too many falls. the careful cleaning by mom and the watchful eyes of all the aunts in the surrounding stalls...
i heard the bleats and soft clomp of feet through that summer. the joyful bursts of joy at running through the grass. the breathless look of terror at the summer storms and miserable hours waiting for the sun to dry them off...
the harsh call of a large black bird can be heard through the closed window as the old man shifts in his well worn chair. it's cushions having long ago given up trying to hold their shape.
the summer the queen anne's lace came up to your ears... he whispered.
... you'd climb to the top of the pasture, draw yourself up and .... he fell silent for a moment... his eyes sharpened through their cloudiness for just that moment...
you'd draw yourself up, peircing through the canopy of flower heads... draw yourself up and poke through...
his eyes start to do their dance of confusion as he strained to finish the thoughts....
as far as your eyes could see, like a giant poking up through the clouds, you could only see the white tops of the queen anne's lace... in an unbroken layer, between you and the earth.... it was another world....another time....
he fell silent... i sat, respectfully still. hoping to hear more, hoping to see more of his long gone world....
finally i stir. and softlyclear my throat....
"the lama... what happened to the lama" i whispered.
his face broke into a sad smile and his eyes focused on the floor in front of him...an odd sparkle set into those eyes...
the lama... he mouthed.... lamas... the lamas
he sat a little straighter in his chair. he grasped the arms with both large gnarled hands. is shoulders squared from their customary slump...
lamas? they raised long horn cattle, no lamas..... rodeo stock... mean cusses... ornreiest animals you've ever seen.... they'd gore ya quicker than....
the sharpness came back to his eyes.... but his voice trailed off
as i finally left, i retrieved my coat from the coat rack by the door. the coat rack with several of those funny south american hats with pompoms....

Wow. Poignant, great imagery, and suitably creepy. Thanks for taking the time write something this expressive.
Not to detract from that beautiful piece of writing, but those must have been some red and soggy cardigans and hats...

Thanks! it's almost a true story... except for the old man, the funny hats, cardigans, and they might have been alpacas not lamas.
i owe you a thanks. i had not connected renting a place on a farm that had lamas or alpacas and also the long horns...LOL
all these years of giving out lama's and i never stopped and ask the lama if it was one from the farm.... oh, don't believe any stories they tell you.....

Thanks for the fav on INKTOBER 23: Ancient - I think I found the problem
I see you’ve got your ramset driver plugged into your nine iron and that’s just not going to work. How can you expect to get good reception or decent yardage without using a shaved Pekinese as some sort of buffer? My suggestion is that you upgrade your memories to some sort of flashback drive and then you don’t have to worry about losing all your dates to Sheryl, down in marketing. Of course, if you want a new system entirely, I know a Danish Wolfhorse that can give a good deal on a brand new system of government and will even throw in a free monitor lizard. Just let me know and I’ll get you her number.
