I'm a chick, not a son.
And hmm... the way lights and shadows work is pretty logical, really. Although I often paint without thinking about it logically and thus make mistakes. Just decide where the lightsource is and which parts would be in shadows. That's all I can say to that, sorry. I'm sure there's some awesome tutorials on the net though!

okay. find out where you want the sun to be. then put shadow on the opposite side. it also helps to look at things(real things) to get a better feel of shadow. try using a light in your room or somethng. put something somewhere you can see the back/shaded part of it then look at how it works. if that doesnt help i dont know what will

Just depends where you want the lighting to be. It's easy if you just imagine like some light shining on the picture. Like some kind of sun would help. Darkerning should be where lighting doesnt really hit. Bleh I can't really teach but I think that should help a little. ><

I create shadows on a separate layer, and blur afterwards The same thing with lights.
Remember that not all pictures has the same ammount of light, so you can variate the pictures, adding more or less shadows.

well.. one of the biggest poin is : observation..
for examble : lit just one lamp in your room and look how the shadows and light goes..
drawing thoses are a matter of observation and knowledge.. once you know where the light comes from and yu cn see your drawing in 3d in your head, you can see where to put shadows andlight
I leaned my way trought obsevtory drawing.. I'm not that great of a teacher. if that confused you more than helped I'm really sorry l
