My answer of your question: I work with Adobe Photoshop and Corel Paint Shop Pro. And, first of course, I take a photo of myself or other interesting places, scenes or persons
ANd then, all what you need is the brush (from Photoshop, Paintshop), your fantasy and the joy to experience with filters and different types of brushes. (but I'm not a expert just hobby)
