It was on PBS when I was a kid right after Doctor Who, or was it before, but its been over 30 years so my memory is a bit fuzzy. anyway I hope you like the series I'm writing.

I don't know about a poem, but there is a pretty famous painting, and "thin Red Line" has entered the language

I saw the painting, either when it was in the Scottish National War Museum, or later in the National Gallery of Scotland. I've also seen a diorama of the action, I think in the Glasgow Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery.
