Thanks for adding 'Big red' to your favourites. I would love to know how many baby spiders are in the egg sac.

yeah! A truck load! What do you do with the spider after the picture? Just put it back outside? Do you ever 'keep' any? I don't think I'd see a point, since they're so small, but maybe you do...

I nearly always let the spider go again after I've taken the photos. I try to return it as close as possible to where I found it. Ideally I take the photo in situ but I like to take it on my gridded paper so as to get the size relationship but this doesn't always make for the best shot.
I sometimes keep a spider and feed it but my wife doesn't like them in the house, so I don't do it often. I have a group of spiders in the garden that I keep an eye on fairly regularly.

That's nice - trying to put them back almost exactly where you found them
So when you keep a spider, where do you keep it? As in: how? I'm with your wife on that one, except it would depend on how you kept it I guess As long as it's not going to crawl on me it would be fine if that's what you'd like...
So I guess spiders pretty much stay in the same place throughout their lives?

If I do keep a spider, it would be in a plastic container with a lid suitable in size to the size of the spider. They build a web and I drop in food for them. However, I prefer to not keep them for to long although once I had a black house spider for 18 months.
Some spiders move about a bit but I will put them back in typical surroundings to where I got them from if the original place is too far away.

Oh I see. Well that makes sense, now that you've explained it to me
Very cool hobby, I guess, if it's your hobby... LOL. Just awesome how you could totally go for something like that - spiders, to me anyway - aren't too hard to find...
Do you ever get yourself one of those sticky white nests and have that hatch? That might get you some awesome pictures too! If I wasn't so irrationally scared of spiders I would have done that.... lol.

I guess it is my hobby, combining phtography with my interest in spiders.
It's more exciting than stamp collecting.
I have seen baby spiders come out of those nests, but not when I had a camera with me.
