No problem, anything you do from my fandom will get you a fave from me And both drawings together are just made of win XD
I'm good, getting used to my new school schedule, and weighing my option after I complete my degree.
And I seem to be going through some kind of regression-to-highschool phase. I don't know yet if that's good or bad.

And you, how do you do ?

Haha, if you have any requests...
That sounds good. What options are you looking at?
What do you mean with that?

I'm doing okay. Making a decent, but rocky start to my career as a board game artist. I need to start proving myself to developers and publishers, but I'm pretty confident. I'm not a great businessman yet though, and I need to learn to be one.

WARNING: long post, sorry

Haha. Well, how do you feel about drawing me a Black Widow? I'm talking Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, not only does she look good, but she kicks ass and saves the day. I hope they finally give her a stand alone movie.

Well, it's become obvious that I won't be continuing my art history studies any further, if I'd wanted to start a master's next fall, I'd have to submit a project by Monday, and it's just not happening. I don't see any future there, anyway. Except maybe as a college teacher, but I need a master's and I can't do one right now.
I've thought of studying art restoration, but to be a fully-fledged restorator you need a master's too. I could do a museology technique (3 years college program) on the other side of Montreal, but I wouldn't do actual resotration and it would be a longer commute than I'm doing now (but it would be a whole lot cheaper than a master's as college is almost free).
My ideal career path would be sexology but that means ANOTHER bachelor's and then a master's, so five more years in university, which is long and costly, but there seems to be more opportunities for jobs, the professional order was created two years ago and the only specialized bacherlor's is given in Montreal.
I've even looked at old highschool dreams like watchmaking and jewelry, but it doesn't look too good in the career department.
TL;DR, I don't see myself as an academic anymore, I'd like to do something with my hands OR help people and feel useful to society.

Well, on top of going back to old highschool career ideas, I've been growing out my hair and wearing it like I did back then, I keep meeting people from highschool, I've gone back to Star Wars, and Forgotten Realms too, and I've even started listening to music I haven't heard in years. And i still have no idea what to do with my life. I feel like I've come full circle and i'm not sure I like it.

What? Board game artist? That's great
How did you come to that idea?

Rochnan In reply to sasmyra-craulnober [2015-02-02 22:15:50 +0000 UTC]

You never need to warn me for long post, I read them anyway (but will take longer to reply )

I see you liked the Black Widow I drew (Can't say I had a hard time looking up reference pictures )
No standalone Black Widow picture for phase III. They did announce Captain Marvel though.

You've never told me about watchmaking or jewelry. Watchmaking seems difficult, but making jewelry seems like something you can learn in your spare time, much like drawing. It'll be a while before you can sell it on something like Etsy, let alone live off of it, but it'd be fun getting there.
If you have the luxury of taking some more time to think and ask others whose opinion you value*, then you should do so.

Hah, I'm also letting my hair get longer again (though mine are not as majestic as yours, sadly.) I'd say that the crucial difference is that you've already been here and now you're older. But that also means you can now choose a different path than last time.

It's amazing, and I think I'm really liking this little part of the illustration world.
Carlijn plays a lot of board games, and while I was looking for publishers of books, she reminded me that board games need to be illustrated as well. So far, it looks to me as though there's a slight demand for good artists in this field (whereas the field of videogames has too many artists -and book publishing has too many as well, but mostly due to pisspoor standards. Too many of the book covers I encounter are plain ugly, but publishers don't care.)

*Not mine in this case, since studying in Canada is very different from studying in the Netherlands in too many ways.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sasmyra-craulnober In reply to Rochnan [2015-02-03 19:02:08 +0000 UTC]

Haha, alright (and that's fine )

I did, I haven't commented yet because I'm still looking for something pertinent to say other than "Hot dayum!" (Haha, I was really happy to see the Age of Ultron blue lines though, thanks )
Why? Why make a movie about a chracter yet to be introduced when you,ve got one already out there?

Yes, well, it's my girly side, I like shiny things, and I don,t know, the idea of miniature work has always appealed to me. And yeah, watchmaking IS difficult, and outdated, BUT the only watchmaking school in Canada is in my grandparents' town, so it's still an option. And yeah, I guess, but I don't want to do stuff with plastic pearls and feathers, I'm interested and metalworking on a small scale, we've been studying goldsmithing and silversmithing in my Arts of the Fire class and I just love it. I also just bought a book about a female goldsmith at François Ier's court in the 16th century and I'm fascinated.
I've talked about it with my mom and with my boyfriend, so far. But clearly my dad is the most important person I need to talk to, since he basically pays for my studies. Sexology means 5 more years in university

Haha, are you on your way back to that ID pic you showed me ? Well, I imagine that would mean going into watchmaking or jewelry then, sexology is a definite step in the same direction as astrophysics was and didn't that go horribly wrong. I do have a greater distance from it and I've had more time to think about it. It's jut a bit depressing. Maybe I should see it as being given a second chance.

It certainly sounds like fun.
Well, she's got good instinct then, and I'll be looking forward to seeing your work on my friends' shelves (Yes, and tell me about it, ugh. Book illustrating was one of my career ideas too, but it was stamped ou pretty early.)

*Fair enough, thanks all the same for talking about it with me, I know that sort of discussion can be a bit tedious.

Rochnan In reply to sasmyra-craulnober [2015-02-03 19:52:46 +0000 UTC]

Haha, that might not be the most eloquent response, but it's accurate (You're welcome. I like the AoU suit, although all of their outfits seem to be designed by Tony Stark with the hot rod lines I approve.)
Well, Captain Marvel is very important in the Marvel Universe (and a little OP.)

So what were the responses they gave you? And it's probably wise to have gone to your mother and Olivier before going to your father.

Yes, in a way. But this time I know what I'm doing
That sounds like a good way of looking at it

I hope they'll enjoy it as well, and you can always tell them you know the artist (I can't recommend going into book illustration either. Only if you get asked by a bigger publisher.)

*It's okay, and sometimes talking to someone who knows little about a subject can help

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sasmyra-craulnober In reply to Rochnan [2015-02-03 23:39:35 +0000 UTC]

Haha, indeed it is I like the messy lines though, don't worry too much about it
(True that. Well, since he designed Ultron (right?), it's only fair that he would be the one to best conceive defensive suits against him. And I also approve, I loved Tron Legacy )
Which is why I'm more interested in Black Widow, I'm not too much into OP characters.

My mother is worried about money and time, mostly. Money in both cost of studies and future salary, and time for the length of my further studies. She thinks sexology seems to offer the best career safety and opportunities, but it will be costly and long so if my dad isn't willing to pay for five more years of uni we'll have to forget about it, she just doesn't make enough to pay for me. Olivier is pretty much of the "do-what-you-feel-like" school of opinion. To be honest, aside from the money factor and the fact that I wouldn,t be in his university anymore, I think it would make my dad happy that I would be going in a connected path to his, and that I'd have a career plan then. If he's not willing to pay I'll probably go into less expensive job options, like a watchmaking professional degree or a museology technique.

Haha, good. Do you still have the musketeer facial hair look too? If you grow your hair long enough you can go for the 17th century pirate aesthetic

I certainly will (Yeah, yeah, I know.)

It certainly offers a fresh perspective on things.

I should draw more Scarlett...Glad you like the messy lines
(I believe that in the MCU he will. In the comics it's Ant-Man. Oh gods, yes, there's so much goodness in Tron: Legacy...the music, the designs... )

So sexology is the preferred option, provided your dad will support you?
Watchmaking and museology sound like things I can imagine you doing

I have the full Musketeer And that's pretty much what I'm going for!

Yeah, I guess? And if I can actually do jewelry or goldsmithing on the side like you said, I'll be very happy.

I'm just sad that she supports Israel.
It's just conjecture but since they thanked him at the end of the movie i suspect that Hans Zimmer had a hand in that decision, or at least helped them work it out.

Thanks, and me neither, which is why actually making a decision is so scary.

(No, it's pretty bad. I'm good at gleeful hand-rubbing or thoughtful hand-steepling (and here I go back to Thrawnstuffs - next I'll start cocking my eyebrow and twitching the corners of my lips Β

Here you go Β en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tron:_Le…

It is. I've decided with my mom to send aan admission request anyway, whether or not my dad agrees. If he's not alright with sexology, I'll just loose the admission fees, not the actual tuition.Β

Oh, I never tried working with that soundtrack, should've tried that last night (I finally finished the damn paper, I wrote it mostly with the Thor 2 soundtrack )

I heard it's amazing, it happens in Scotland, she's an alien lady predator who learns how to be human (says Tumblr). I wonder if i can convince Olivier to watch it with me
Random Access Memories, huh? Oh right, it's a Daft Punk album. Well, I wasn't really into Daft Punk before Tron, and I've only liked Get Lucky so far, and I prefer the Halestorm cover.
I love M83, though, I really love what they did for the movie Oblivion, and I found this cool tune called Midnight City
I like working to Lindsey Stirling, too. Or that epic playlist I built on YouTube from trailer songs

I can't help it, I always fall for fictional characters with ambiguous morals
(I need an emote with wiggly eyebrows.) I'll distract you, Princess Jasmine-style, while the hero steals your evil-overlord (plot-)device

Yeah, they changed with the Tron soundtrack; there's a pretty clear before and after.
Ahhh, Oblivion has a lot of things going for it, the same way Tron does.
I rarely listen to Lindsey Stirling, and I don't really know why :/ Do share

Well, we're always wondering what to watch on Video On Demand, that could be a good option.
I think that's a good thing, if only because I like... "cinematic" music a lot better than club music
True. It's one of those movies where Tom Cruise is good. And the scenery is amazing, but mostly for me the music did it... I love the end song with Suzanne Sundfor.
You don't like Dubstep?Β
The epi playlist you mean? Lemme just see if I saved it somewhere XD Okay so I can't find the thing, it must've been those randomly-generated 50 vieos playlist Youtube does sometimes, but maybe I can find a way to send you my playlist from iTunes? Or just a Word file with the list

Well, Raistlin Majere, Draco Malfoy, Elaith Craulnober, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Kyp Durron, wow, I need more female ambiguously moral favourite characters.
(Haha, yeah, but none of them really has the expression I'm looking for )
Well, women have to be good for something, right ?

Yeah, their early work is definitely club music, still very good though, but different.
Talking about good Tom Cruise movies, I still want to see Edge of Tomorrow

I do, although there's too much uninspired dubstep out there.
Yes, please! Although a Word file might be a bit clunky.

Haha, that's a lot of ambiguous characters
(Ah. )
I feel like I shouldn't comment on that Well, come for the plot-device, stay for the fun evil overlords can have? (We have a dungeon! )

It wasn't really my type of music, unfortunately. We do have differing taste in music sometimes, it seems
Oh, I've seen it, it was great, he plays arrogant coward turned unwilling hero pretty well

Haha, true. Well, I'm a melody woman, which is why I love Lindsey Stirling's work, I think. Love the violin song over the electronic background.
I'll try and see if I can send the iTunes playlist, then.

And I didn't even mention Game of Thrones
(What can I say, I'm difficult when it comes to conveying the right... "tone of voice"?)

Yeah, and she seems to have a lot of fun with her music as well, which is why I like her music.
Hooray!

Oh man aren't those character edging more towards ambiguously evil, rather than ambiguously good? Good guys tend to end up dead, ambiguous or not*.
(Oh don't worry, I think I understand what you were saying with that )

True that.
You tell me how it was

That too, her videos are always fun to watch and they look fun to make.

It depends, Kyp Durron is ambiguously good, but it's true that most of them are ambiguously evil, though most of them are redempted late in their story (except for Thrawn, who dies a bad guy through and through). I don't know, not that I observed? None of my favourite characters eever died

Also, hell yeah, that Emily Blunt yoga pose.

Well, I have one left for today (though I will likely hand it in tomorrow or Friday instead), but we just voted a two weeks strike so about three or four of my deadlines have been pushed back.Β
I spent it with Olivier, doing pretty much nothing except watching TV, playing video games, and reading. We did eat out on Wednesday night and we went to see Jupiter Ascending

I'll give it a look when I have time then.
How about asking Carlijn to pose for you ?

The main reason why I loved the character (strictly as a villain back then, in my 15 year old eyes he was irredeemably evil) was that he used art to build his strategy and find weaknesses in his opponents, though now that I've studied art history I find it hard to believe and kind of problematic that you can build a sound tactical analysis of an entire species based on a few generalized formal characteristics. Although I guess you CAN generalize the art of an entire species when you've got a galaxy filled with desert planets, ice planets, magma planets, and unified species. I mean, maybe these species unified culturally when they delopped space travel, as your planet becomes your main origin when traveling in such a huge frame as a galaxy, but even then I don't think humanity would become as culturally uniform as the Wookies or the Mon Calamari for exemple when we start exploring space outside the solar system. Sorry, I obviously think too much about this.

Yeah, right, it's kind of hard hen we're not face to face you know. [leans against the wall, hand on my hip] Hello there, handsome. Buy me a drink? [bats eyelashes] ... [burts out laughing]

It can be done, but it requires ways to check on yourself and what you're doing. And lots of discipline.

Ah? What happens in April? Well yes, I admit I was hoping it would pass so I'd have more time to do my papers
Well, I liked it, it was fun to watch, the images were pretty, the costume and production designs were cool, and the story was anything a teenage girl can dream of But it's not a chef-d'oeuvre, that's for sure. The romance felt contrived and tacked on (though less than in Seventh Son), the action was a bit confusing at times, and the story was full of clichΓ©s, as many teenage girl stories can be

Haha, I'll look that guy up, then
At your service

I don't know if I have to be vexed, embarrassed or flattered Thanks, I guess?

[tries for a sexy laugh] [giggles] Straight to business, huh? [walks past you] [brushes against you on the way] [and goes to sit on a barstool] (Why is it always a bar?)
Yeah. Which I don't have

I get to make a new website for myself, and go on and start spamming my drawings all over the internet. Which also means there are a few important deadlines for me tied into that.
Haha, but I'm not a teenage girl, so I think I might watch it casually sometime (I'll keep Kurosawa for the serious movie-watching)

Don't, let them be a surprise when they come to you (But watch out when someone mentions Wolverine. DO NOT CLICK ON THE IMAGES WHEN THEY DO.)

Haha, you don't like adorable?

[Is watching, forgetting to close jaw.][Goes and sits on the stool next to yours] One whiskey, and one of the lady's preference. (Because of story conventions? Then let it be one of those classy bars with a piano.)
Can Olivier help with that?

Oh, nice But yeah, I understand.
It's good fun

Haha, alright

Well, yes and no. It's nice to be cute, but you know, I'm 25, I don't really want to be cute anymore. (Like, I like it but it bothers me? I really don't know why, to be honest.)

[can't help the grin on my face as I notice][as you sit, I cross my legs so that the one on top brushes against yours][shit what do I drink to look cool?] Er, same. (Aw yeah, and someone is playing smooth jazz on it.)
With discipline? Not really, he's almost as bad as I am

Ah, work work work...
Okay

Well, you're less pink-butterflies-and-princesses-cute, and more that-girl-in-the-library-cute, if that helps (or makes sense.)

[represses the urge to say "What's a girl like you doing in a place like this?"] "The drink, as promised. Would you like something else along with it?" [looking at you now...]
Haha, okay, someone else then?

I like both kinds of cute, funnily enough, so it's fine (and it does make sense, I guess.)

[why, are we in a shady joint ?] Well, a good conversation would be nice, i like to have my... mind stimulated when I meet someone new [resists urge to wiggle eybrows suggestively, opts for a tilt of the head and grin]
Like whom? My mother? She's actually a bad as me when it comes to discipline. I guess it really does have to come from me. I don't know, I guess I'm really bad with motivation lately, it's the spring effect (you could say I have backwards seasonal depression )

Haha, the pink-butterflies too?

[Probably not, it just sounds fun to say ]Well then, [reaches out hand] I have a room where we can talk all night, if you'd like.

Haha, backwards seasonal depression sounds strange. But I get it. It's too nice outside, damn it

Of course! I played with barbies and dolls as a kid, and although I barely ever wear pink, dresses, or butterfly-related stuff, it doesn't mean I don't like it

[Haha, fair enough] Well then, [tilts head, hesitates, then smiles and places hand in yours] let's go!

Well in my case it has a little to do with how I hate the heat, though I'm glad to be rid of my winter gear, and a lot to do with bad memories, most of the bad stuff that happened in my life in recent years happened in the spring, and also because spring means and of term in school, it means job-hunting, yoyo weather, and dealing with strong echoes of my first depression. Hopefully it will get better over time, but ever since I left highschool spring has been synonymous with bad things.
Haha, there's that, too, though I can say I made the most of it so far, I walked a whooping hour and a half Monday to get new earphones, I was just too happy to have an excuse to walk outside in a t-shirt and unning shoes (Also because Best Buy does not accept direct PayPal payment, unlike Future Shop, which they just absorbed. Sadface.)

Fair enough

[while walking to the room] Going along with someone you just met, you must be as adventurous as you are gorgeous. Now what would satisfy such an adventurous mind?

I hope there's a chance for good memories to replace the bad ones, eventually.

Sometimes I do wish all my clothes weren't blue or black, but when shopping I can never find girly stuff that fits me, so

[raises an eyebrow] And you often invite along someone you just met? I did come to this bar for a reason... [wiggles eyebrows] Though I'll admit I don't do this so often. [grimaces] Well, you seem like quite the adventurous man yourself, what do you have in mind?

Well, the trip to Paris was a good start

Really? That sounds less like your fault, and more like local fashions'. Utrecht has a lot of strange and colorful clothes, which is kinda great for art students

[halts, looks into eyes] I'm looking for someone to explore all the pleasures, and you seem like a rare gem. [moves towards door] Where do you want to go? [grin]

I very much agree

Maybe, but i haven't shopped for clothes in ages, maybe I'll try to buy more colourful stuff this summer (if I have any money for that, of course.)
Yeah, I can imagine ^^

[blushes, looks away] Well, let's take it one pleasure at a time, shall we? [follows with trepidation] No idea, how about outside [sticks out tongue]
