Heya, kinda traced you by the commissions left and right of your two characters I still do hope you'll try to pick up on drawing sometime. It's far from an easy road but heck man I've been at the same spot, barely able to cram horrid doodles out of a pen  It takes a lot of effort, but it's extremely rewarding to break through the "I can't do it" phase. Truly hope you'll give it a try because your two fella's have a lot of heart in them!
I've yet to walk though your gallery due to uni keeping me busy, but it'll come.

[Also nice to see you've dabbled with sc2 Shame the game went a bit downhill after WoL...]

Hey, nice to meet you! I've tried my hand at drawing in the past, but it really wasn't too successful. So much frustration and erasing and even though it felt good having something drawn it was still just.. so bad. I know if I try harder I might be able to improve but I have a habit of trying something out and my motivation fizzling out quickly, even if I'm not awful at it (many musical instruments I've reached proficiency but lost interest in. Currently going strong on the Cello; probably due to the incredibly high skill ceiling.)  You can see what few drawings I've uploaded in my scraps.

And yeah, starcraft was a huge part of my childhood. Played it since I was 7 (2002?) and then nolifed the second one for three days straight minus eating and sleeping when it came out. Had some great custom games, too. Highest I reached was plat as Protoss and I remember I stopped laddering when I got sick of the mutalisk spam meta that Zergs did 24/7... Then I could never get anywhere near as good as I was before. The skill level of that game is insane.

Also I noticed you're a programmer as well! Seems like we share a lot of interests.

No it wouldn't be! It sucks at first. The lines don't end up right, you feel unhappy about every outcome and eventually a brick forms in your stomach leading up to the thought of "fuck this shit" Went through the same phase man. It's not so much about trying harder as it is about learning to teach yourself. Drawing for me was much against the interests of my whole life up to that point. I had no sense of anatomy, forms, negative space, colours or blending. There is a huuuge gap of implicit knowledge that leads up to a drawing. People who draw from early on may know this intuitively, but if you haven't been busy with it you'll be frustrated by not being able how to figure out to progress. Divide and conquer!

One thing you should definitely try (judging from your drawings so far) is to use the side of the pencil to sketch. Sharpen the pencil and then dull down the tip and then use the side of the pencil to draw your lines. Keep them loose; they may look hairy and unstraight. You can always erase the outliers later on and you'll get a nice smooth line. The side also helps to layer in little bits of graphite, which you can then smudge with your finger. At very first you'll have to just try these things and ways out without it leading to a finished art work. But you gotta deal with that. Exploring the sub-elements of the process before tackling a bigger work.

Think about it like this, you're really up against your own brain's ability to translate the mental vision to the paper That frustration is there with good reason, so do give your own head the time it needs to adapt ya know. You don't need to work at it like a zealot, but a little consistency goes a long way. Getting a result doesn't matter as much as explaining the process to yourself is. Try to pick it up again man, if you need pointers or anything I'll gladly help you with that. I started out in 2013 with 0 artistic background, complete with crappy lineworks too and had to teach myself from scratch. It's been one of the most rewarding endeavours of my life so far.

Cello is a cool instrument I recently considered renting one for a quarter to see if I like it, but I figured my practice with piano, art and uni already kept me so busy. I can always learn it later in life Really cool that you play it though! It's my favourite string instrument. What other instruments did you play so far?

Same really. I played a lot of WoL 2v2 with a friend and got to plat, but never really cared much for playing the 1v1's. Especially after the hots/lotv fiesta it just died out for me. I played a lot of the custom-game Island Defense, where I found a rather friendly community too hihi.
Ling-muta has always been pretty common, but what I disliked the most was the oracle bullshit. Seriously xD It was like 8/10 games people would do oracle rushes, up to a point where my go-to buildorder would just be turret/cannon first in the mineral lines. It was pretty effective because their focus on oracles puts them behind if they can't deal any damage to your eco.
Nyeh I understand. You need to really want to be good at a game. I had the same when some friends dragged me into league of legends or heroes of the storm. I just didn't care enough about it to truly study it. I mean I may as well invest that time in learning a real-life craft. I found that more rewarding...

I am indeed! If all goes well I'll graduate in 3 months And then I'll do a master, probably in quantum computing/networking and computer graphics.

Maybe I'll revisit drawing in the future, but as of right now I don't have the will to. As of right now I have the luxury of being able to afford commissions from artists far superior than I'll probably ever be to create my vision, and while it may not be exactly 100%, it's close enough that I'm happy with it. Also I've been writing both creatively and academically for years now and it's just a lot more comforting and relaxing, rather than the stress and disappointment drawing leaves me with. Plus it feels a lot more natural for me.

As for instruments, in order I think I've played piano, guitar, trumpet, drums, and now the cello. Also the recorder in third grade but that was easy and brief. Kind of sampled most categories of instruments.

Gaming has always been one of my biggest passions, too. I've played both LoL and HotS as well. As well as a whole slew of other competitive games. Right now my biggest obsession has been Super Smash Bros and just being able to notice the progress I've made as a player makes me strive to further improve - and that's coming from someone who's a lazy, uninspired bum when it comes to most facets of life. I'm not very particularly excited by programming. It's definitely interesting to learn how all this stuff that lets us talk now works, but it's not my passion. I'm a senior right now as well, but I missed a semester for health reasons in the past so I have one to make up; and I'm studying abroad in New Zealand. I'm so excited, that place looks so beautiful and I want to get a taste of living outside of the U.S., because I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy it more... The political climate of this country has been fucking disgusting these last few years. People are so divided and no one knows how to have a constructive discussion without someone freaking the fuck out because you disagree with them.

As for passions, you probably already inferred gaming and writing. Of course there's always the inner workings of my imagination. But, oddly enough, even with such a vivid imagination, I really have a passion for philosophy, specifically existential philosophies. I've been picking them up recently and to be honest some of them are just as enjoyable to read as a good work of fiction for me.

Mhm. I see. It is truly difficult to force an artistic process and if you can
find expression through the art of others and your writing, that's all you need
    to be happy right?

Does sound like an extensive repertoire! I played guitar when I was young but never pursued it fully. I've started piano about 3 years ago now which was my first step back into music. Other than that I can do some basic snare marches but that's it. I never bothered with the recorder even though I have one at home

Aye and that's in my view the most rewarding thing; strive to outdo yourself in whatever field it may be I found this doing HEMA too (longsword-fighting). Never was much of a person to bother with physical training before, but to notice the footwork, technique, and especially bodily strength and endurance improve was invigorating.

Nowadays I sometimes play Divinity original sin and some other classics, or co-op games. I also really enjoyed the xcom series and have been developing plans for creating a kind of turn-based game as portfolio work.

That does sound very cool! New Zealand is a gorgeous place! This year I spent a semester in Hungary, which was quite a nice country too, but perhaps not as magical as that haha
Hope you'll make the most of it! Are you also studying philosophy or something entirely else?
(Or did you imply you're studying CS too but just not very passionate about it? In a way I feel similar. In a positive sense though. I like the domain but I know my heart lies with my dragons and art and CGI. It balances out I guess )

So I heard. Or well, hard to miss the drama right? Makes one scratch the back of your head and wonder why we don't all get along. But there are various reasons of course. I just really dislike bloody polarization. Everyone is either jumping on the blame-wagon, throwing up false dilemmas, applying subversion at every corner >_> It's like any form of problem-centric discussion is eroding away.

Mhm. I spent a good part of my younger life (16 onward) overthinking a lot of things in life. I experienced things I regarded impossible, and had to change my mindset on things quite a few times. Certainly was a great experience.

Yeah, I'm majoring in CS with dual minors in Math and Philosophy.

As for politics, found a quote in the book I was reading: “It is the political fanaticism which empties politics of all human content and imposes the State, not for individuals, but against them.”

I'm curious as to what you mean by experiencing things you regarded impossible, if you don't mind of course. If it's something you don't want public eyes on then feel free to note me!

Sounds cool! I did the study abroad for my minor actually, focusing just on courses in Electrical engineering. Was mostly to learn to live independently
A minor in math does sound interesting, I just usually felt like the practical applications were more at home. I was not intuitively good at mathematics and really had to teach it myself to become good at it. even then there's still so much shit above your head! But I do enjoy the setting of computer graphics It's quite multi-disciplinary and it keeps me outside of my comfort-zone.

Mhm. Still, pointing out a consequence is one, trying to play the game of k-dimensional chess that is addressing it is a whole new level of bullshittery. But hey, at the same time that would be a very dangerous game to play haha. Being in the Netherlands does feel like living in a bubble in that regard. Comparatively little drama, then again look at that speck on the map compared to, say, Texas

I'll take that part to notes then. 'tis also more convenient to message.
