Your webcomic has been a favorite of mine for years now, I really enjoy the high contrast black and white art, and the sci-fi pulp feel of the storylines.

Just read your eraser review, loved it. I too have struggled to find something reliable to pair with my graphite. I have used the Staedtlers for most of my drawing career and have been pretty pleased with the results, although as you said, it tends to scatter a bit during heavy use. You have intrigued me and I think I will purchase the top four of your list to give them a go. Your tests were in the H-B range where as I work primarily in the 4-6B range when using graphite so I am curious to see how they handle the softer leads.

Thanks for reading, Cat! I'm actually trying out some 4B this week, and on smooth Bristol paper--and I got in a few more erasers, like Tombow's legendary old "Mono"--so I'm going to have a follow-up eraser comparison article in a couple days. (The short version is that the erasers perform relatively similarly to what they achieved with the H-grade lead on the rougher Illustration paper, except that the Campus 2B, which was #2 for me with the H grade lead, is at 4B just slightly outperforming the Ain Dust-Gathering, which was #1 for H--the Campus erases the softer lead more completely, and requires less scrubbing.)

Excellent! I am a sucker for art supplies, I have to bring cash only when I walk into art supply stores least I walk out with half the store in my pockets ready for projects. Your first review was steller, combined with your experience with heavy graphite use, made it more than informative. Been looking for an eraser to make clean up a bit easier. I am doing my series of 10 minute sketches trying to refine my skill/technique and minimize the amount of lines used. During these sessions I refrain from using an eraser, as 10 minutes is actually a very short amount of time. I am looking into adding a few 20 minute sessions to my repertoire and would like a solid eraser to quickly fix mistakes and to make clean up a breeze. The Staedtler as I said before has been my trusted go to, and in most cases suits its use well, but I do love to try out new tools. Looking forward to the next review.

Ooh yeah I might have to end up disqualifying the Campus actually--tried using it on a full page and it fell apart on me! Ack, art supplies. : P

My pleasure! I'm hoping to learn from your wonderful pencil shading technique...even though I'm stubbornly sticking with a 0.5mm drafting pencil at the moment ; )

I did...back then I thought line art should be exact, all clean lines...but then, as I allow myself to 'sketch' more...the lines that I found effective are those that are natural, with different sizes too..to create interest in an otherwise black and white medium. Of course, composition also play an important role..

Ah, see, I'm not a clean line person at all, actually. : ) I love the sketchiness and line variety of pencils, but not the crayon-like qualities of the softer leads regular pencils tend to come in--the smudging, etc, since I'm a fussy and messy worker; if I used 3B like you, for instance, I would end up with an absolutely unscannable mess! I should really look and see if I can find some good H pencils. ... Ah, those Caran d'Ache Grafwoods sound nice, maybe I'll give one of those a shot. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it is very interesting and helpful!

np, bro! Are you planning on coming to any Canadian cons anytime soon? oh god, you should come to Calgary Comic Expo, I'm sure you'd make a killing there.

Gosh! I haven't gone to any cons as an exhibitor; I don't have a book or anything and didn't figure I could make a profit out of it. I suppose if I was to try one it might be Jet City here in Seattle, which is pretty much in walking distance of my new apartment. : )
By the way, not to pester you or anything, but is my application to SCIFI-MEN okay? I don't have that many drawings of guys from my story, but I think I have a couple that would do.
