It's quite impressive. I did he same plunge in the deep end when I started doing embroideries. I'm working on my third big one now, a wizard from Dimension's Gold collection.

Ohh!! Is it called βThe Scarlet Wizardβ?? I have that one to doβ¦β¦..Sometime!! Iβve almost finished a birth sampler for my great-nephew. Then I have a small one I want to do for a friend and THEN!! I can at last start on my Egyptian Queens.

Yes, that's the one. And it's taking me ages to finish. I started it in July and I'm not even half way. Lots of half-stitches and mixed colours and when I've finally managed to get all the cross-stitching done there are lines to do and some of those are not normal... I've done one with huskies in mountains and one with a painting of a man (frame and all) before and they were a LOT simpler.

Each one I do has something different in it. I did a birth sampler for my great niece, it had flowers on it using something called 'Japanese flower stitch.' I was o_O!!! You had to make a five armed star and then weave a narrow ribbon through it. I was really proud of it when I'd finished it. That one had beads on it as well!!

That sounds rather complicated. I mainly embroider as a pass time sort of hobby rather than to challenge myself so the stuff I do is usually pretty simple, though big. I'm finally done with the magical swoosh on the wizard, now it's just him, his robes, the book and the candles left. Hardly anything at all... I did some math and found out that there are aproximately 70000 stitches on that piece.

I thought it would be, but once I'd done it, it was okay. The otter one has the most stitches I think. It was the size of an A4 piece of paper, but it was all stitched. That took me nearly a year to do!!
When you've finished it, you'll have to post a picture for everyone to see.

I'm thinking of posting pictures of the other two I've done so far but I need to fix some stuff about them first. One of them isn't even completely finished because I ran out of one colour and didn't know where to get more where I live. Plus I need to clean them and fix them up a bit.

I've found a place now, but I had just moved to this town when I was finishing that piece so the only place I knew was 60 miles away... Now I live within walking distant from a great store that has tons of embroideries and all the accessories.

Ohh!! That good.............. The only problem now is...... How tempted you'll be to spend lots of money in there!!!

sneakyboo In reply to DRAGONSEEKER789 [2008-04-04 08:03:43 +0000 UTC]
I've managed to contain myself so far, only bought one embroidery there. But I'm going to need a new one in a not too distant future and I might get tempted.

DRAGONSEEKER789 In reply to sneakyboo [2008-04-04 22:13:55 +0000 UTC]
And it's so easy to be tempted!! I have so many kits and patterns in the bottom of my wardrobe!!
Are you looking for anything in particular or just what ever takes your eye?
π: 0 β©: 1
sneakyboo In reply to DRAGONSEEKER789 [2008-04-04 22:26:10 +0000 UTC]
I go with whatever catches my eye, but I prefer large ones with lots of colour and preferably not still thing like flowers or so. I want the picture to be interesting, espescially considering how much time I'll be spending staring at it while working on it.

I know what you mean!! I have so many!! Dragons and Egyptian and other things!! When I have finished the Boarder Terrier I'm doing for my friend, I have to do a wedding sampler for my friend over the road who is getting married next year, and then I can start on my Egyptian Queens!!

sneakyboo In reply to DRAGONSEEKER789 [2008-04-06 08:23:01 +0000 UTC]
I haven't really had enough money to buy lots of different ones, I just buy a new one when the one I'm doing is close to finished, but it is tempting. So the only one I have lying about is one with flowers my sister gave me for christmas and it is not very interesting.

I've sometimes got ones on special offer, so I have quite a few to choose from, with liking Dragons, I have got quite a few of those!!!

I think the biggest reason I don't have heaps and heaps of embroideries lying about is that the store I mentioned isn't really in a place where you are likely to accidentaly end up and decide to browse, it's more of a place you pass by on the bus while going somewhere else.

DRAGONSEEKER789 In reply to sneakyboo [2008-04-08 19:53:03 +0000 UTC]
There's a big place on my bus journey into town, but there is also a little craft shop I have to pass on my way from work to the bus station every day, I always have a look in the window. My greatest downfall is the craft fairs I go to!! Especially if the stalls have sales on!!

sneakyboo In reply to DRAGONSEEKER789 [2008-04-12 10:11:02 +0000 UTC]
I've managed to avoid those temptations, probaly because the closest thing to a craft fair around here is people selling the stuff they've crafted and the few times when there are embroideries to buy they are either exceptionally expensive or mind numbingly boring, like flowers and kittens.

There are two a year in Manchester, which is the nearest big city to me. I go as I have friends who have a stall there. And then there's the Harrogate show, which is one a year, thats enormous!! So many that I'd like to do!!

I'm seriously jealous! Although I don't really need any more right now, hardly doing anything on the one I already have. Too much work and it's too hot outside.

Hee!! I just need an unlimited amount of cash and all the time in the world to do them!!! I picked up my latest from the framers on Saturday, will have to take a photo and get it posted.
Works a pain at the moment, regrading means I have to take an interview to get back the job I've been doing for two years!!!
And it's hot over here as well........ Now that's a change!! The forecast is for thunderstorms tonight, I have a killer of a headache......... We could be due one!!!

sneakyboo In reply to DRAGONSEEKER789 [2008-09-03 14:01:41 +0000 UTC]
I really want to get a new one, but I'm hardly working on the one I have so I should probably wait... But I want one!
That sucks pretty bad, hope the interview went well and you got to keep the job. I'm back in school and loving it.
My summers been pretty insane, but now I'm back to my normal life except that I got a new appartment, living by myself.

The one I'm doing now is growing quite quickly, maybe then I can finally get around to my Egyptian Queens.........
The interview wasn't as bad as I'd feared......... Just got to wait for about two weeks for the results!!
Ohh!! You'll have to do yourself a 'Home, Sweet Home'!!
