This is from my journal:

So, something happened today and I got logged out somehow of my main account, . I've tried every password I can think of, I tried password recovery but I think the email address is one I got rid of. It's almost as if the password was stolen somehow, or it was some random one given by the site, or a misspelling of something more obvious. If it weren't for this account I'd have to make a new one.

I hope people will still see my stuff... I'll try and transfer some stuff and make sure nobody thinks I'm some art theif stealing or anything.

Not really. We need people to join so we can put them down for raffle prizes at the end, which is why you can't submit anything unless you're a member.

But if you've made a Christmas themed drawing we might like, direct us to it and we'll favorite it!

> Wrath of Khan, Patrick Stewart, William Shatner, and everything else in the Star Trek franchise COMBINED. I LOVE that movie and I wouldn't have care about Trek without it. That said, I pretty much like all of the films except Insurrection. Star Trek movies are more enjoyable to me than actual episodes, guess that's the kind of person I am. Wrath of Khan feels pretty overrated to me, but I get why people love it so much, the space battles between the Enterprise and the stolen Federation ship, the character of Khan being so larger-than-life and the epic rivalry, and Kirk shouting his name so memorably in one scene.... but I much prefer the 2009 reboot and I'm psyched as hell for the sequel next year. JJ Abrams is my favourite Hollywood director working at the moment. He said he sort of needed a 'way in' to the franchise, and I think I was the same... I needed something to connect me with those characters, so now I've watched bits of everything pretty much and found what I did and didn't like.

IKingFisher In reply to spectrum-sparkle [2012-10-19 06:27:04 +0000 UTC]

...so you DO like trek for sure

I'm more traditional Trekkie in that I prefer the episodes. Everything from TOS to DS9 have such a variety of characters and themes that we've never had in a show and may never again.

Wrath of Khan is a little overrated but IS the best Trek movie, regardless of what you think

Liking the 2k9 version explains why you'd prefer it to the shows though

spectrum-sparkle In reply to IKingFisher [2012-10-19 06:55:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'm too much of an adrenaline junkie Some people hate that about it, like it's a "traitor" betraying the shows for a more Star Wars feel, but I like Star Wars as well. Those people should be glad it's gotten such a big audience, even if it's pandering a little bit. I couldn't stand two hours of intellectual discussions with aliens that have boring forehead ridges.

Why is Khan the best, anyway? Is it because of the villain? I don't think it's perfect... nothing is perfect. But I get a lot more out of the other ones.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IKingFisher In reply to spectrum-sparkle [2012-10-19 07:00:45 +0000 UTC]

Star Trek movies are generally weak; The shows are where the good stuff is.

Because of this Khan is the best startrek movie and therefore is MUCH better then the others..even if as a movie it's only "regular-good" it's still the high point of the films.

It also does have a great villain, strong emotional moments for major characters and of course "KHHHAAAAANNNNN!"

The new movie just didn't have enough sitting around a table discussing why the mining rights of the nearby moon needed to be negotiated with the federation instead of being sold to the Ferengi at a higher price. (that was a good episode)

spectrum-sparkle In reply to IKingFisher [2012-10-19 07:04:30 +0000 UTC]

Right... that's a Hollywood classic right there...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IKingFisher In reply to spectrum-sparkle [2012-10-19 07:27:38 +0000 UTC]

you bet!

Seriously though, I did like the new Trek movie and will be seeing the sequel for sure.

It's a different style of Trek but it still hits all the right notes and was better then all of the older Star Trek movies (exceptions being "Wrath of Khan" and "Voyage Home"...everyone loves "Voyage Home")

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

spectrum-sparkle In reply to IKingFisher [2012-10-19 07:46:02 +0000 UTC]

I hope I never end up in a fight with 'traditional' Star Trek fans. That really isn't my style of show/movie at all.

Maybe I'm spiteful, but I don't like liking things that "everyone" likes. It really is subjective. Five is a guilty (well, slightly guilty) pleasure for me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IKingFisher In reply to spectrum-sparkle [2012-10-19 07:52:31 +0000 UTC]

That's why I'm open about it. I'm a traditional fan but see the value in the fun, high energy remake.

The universe is so great that it deserves all the attention it can get

spectrum-sparkle In reply to IKingFisher [2012-10-19 07:57:00 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, pretty much.

'High energy' describes what I like about it pretty well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IKingFisher In reply to spectrum-sparkle [2012-10-19 08:03:10 +0000 UTC]

and there is no reason we can't have both classic episodes on dvd and high energy movies in the theater...considering how bad most trek movies are it's not like purists can complain too much

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

spectrum-sparkle In reply to IKingFisher [2012-10-19 08:07:45 +0000 UTC]

Well, the franchise sure wasn't doing much in recent years. And I don't think Enterprise did very well with fans, it retconned a lot of continuity things or something.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IKingFisher In reply to spectrum-sparkle [2012-10-19 09:11:23 +0000 UTC]

...don't even mention Enterprise

Enterprise DOESN'T EXIST.period.

I'm glad we understand each other >.>

The truth is with Voyager being the last series (!!!) and the films never being all the good. It's fine that the entire thing goes in a new direction, as long as we classic Trek fans always have Kirk (real Kirk, not fake new Kirk) and Picard (and god help them if they have a fake new Picard) then we have nothing to complain about.

i love DeepSpace9 and there will never be a star-trek show as hilariously creative and character driven as that was. So we hold these close to our hearts and never let them go and then whatever happens in the future with these films happens in the future with these films

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

spectrum-sparkle In reply to IKingFisher [2012-10-19 09:32:34 +0000 UTC]

Of course it does. Enterprise exists, it was a show, it happened. Denying it doesn't help, well it never helps me.

I always liked the characters in DS9 when I was checking that series out... Idk how they did that.

I think Chris is a much better Kirk than Bill. I was never fully on board with Bill Shatner... I prefer the new cast over the old. But I guess that's my nostalgia/bias/whatever, starting with that first. I thought the old actors were ugly as hell at first

And Star Trek Nemesis had a 'fake' (literally fake, a clone) new Picard as the bad guy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IKingFisher In reply to spectrum-sparkle [2012-10-19 09:43:49 +0000 UTC]

Right...let me say this again.

Enterprise was a ship. PERIOD.

There was no show called enterprise, ok? If you remember it as a show then it was just a bad dream you had.

DS9 had THE BEST characters in all Trek, like Garak the former Cardasian spy turned peaceful tailor. The Ferengi bartender Quark and the rivalry he has with security chief Odo.

You could easily have a sitcom spinoff following the antics of charming Garak as he plays Quark and Odo off each other while dodging Obsidian Agents sent to find him.

And that's not the only example, the show being on a space station let it be a world in a way that the regular series never were able to.

and thats not even getting into the big questions they raise about religion(there ARE Gods, but they turn out to be aliens), war (The end of the cardasian war never brings peace) and slavery (the jem'hadar slave army and the repercussions for both sides)

I love DS9

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IKingFisher In reply to spectrum-sparkle [2012-10-20 01:55:04 +0000 UTC]

Honestly, there is nothing wrong with it...

except the weak overdrama, the weak lore, the weak theme song, actually it's just that the whole thing is sort of weak XD

Also the captain was the fist one to not really hit it with audiences, some people don't like Janeway and some people don't like Sisko...but no one likes Archer O.o

I should watch it again, haven't seen it in years so maybe it deserves another chance.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

spectrum-sparkle In reply to IKingFisher [2012-10-20 02:34:10 +0000 UTC]

*shrugs* Whatever, it's probably a bit meh... I've only really seen the pilot and a couple other episodes, but I can't be bothered to find any of the rest.

IKingFisher In reply to spectrum-sparkle [2012-10-20 02:35:51 +0000 UTC]

yay, good Trek wins!

I still want to go back and watch to re-form my opinion...but "meh" is the best way to describe it
