I love your work! Especially the inked Dirk, the folds, the face and mouth shape, great stuff.

Speaking of which, I am gauging interest from a few artists to see about interest in working on my comic. I described the comic to my wife as a visual style between Team Fortress 2 and Disney, and I think you are right there, which I hope you find a compliment.

At the moment, I'm just gauging interest because I'm still laying out the sequential art, but once finished, I'll be running a kickstarter for funds (Hoping that my complete sketched comics with 1 or 2 finished pages will entice people). So! This would be a paid gig, but I am looking for an artist looking to work on a bigger project over a longer period of time. And before this email gets wayyyyyy too long, let me bullet point this thing for you and if you are interested, I can keep you in mind for when I'm ready.

---

My one line pitch? This is a hockey-themed, beer league comic with characters that vary in size, skill and talent, similar to the characters of Team Fortress 2.

Which means… Would you be interested in drawing lots of hockey scenes, people in locker rooms, people grilling out after games, etc., are you familiar with TF2 (for color pallet purposes, etc.), and are you interested in a longer project?

I'm also curious to know if you think there are areas of your sketching abilities that are lacking? Basically, where are you most weak?

---

I am a technical illustrator (spinneyassociates.com), which means I have some graphic skills but not your talent and style. Currently I am sketching out the sequential artwork beats in Illustrator and will not be running a kickstarter until the 3rd comic is planned out (I saw you are an Intuos user, too!). I went to school for writing (UNCW), so I'm finding that I need to put my stories together with visual ideas, so I'd be delivering a completely laid out comic in rough sketch that would need to be penciled and then inked (with the idea that as we work together more, I can provide simpler layouts as the characters are established, etc.).

---

Anyway, I've gone on long enough. First up, of course, would be some character studies (paid!); and if we were to begin working together, I would hope we work out rates that allow me to send you a lot of work.

You can check me out on Facebook to see that I'm a real person (www.facebook.com/brian.spinney… and I hope to hear back from you soon!

Thanks,

Brian

Thanks so much for thinking of me!

Unfortunately, I'm very busy with my own 3 comics, as well as two part-time jobs, so I'm not easily able to take on long-term work. However, if you visit my journal, you'll see that I'm offering discounted commissions right now. That might be helpful in terms of character sketches

Just for future reference, if you're going to actually be collaborating with the artist (providing the roughs for them to pencil in), you really, REALLY need to have some stuff up in your gallery that shows your ability. Being able to successfully lay out sequential art is a massive challenge and any artist worth hiring will want to see if you're able to do it. Otherwise, just write the comic, and leave the layout entirely to the artist

Again, thank you for offering this opportunity, and good luck with it!
