Sorry for the reply. It's because OCs shipped with canon characters are way too often Sues/Stus and your OC seems to fit the bill by dating an oiran, whose profession, from what I've gathered, doesn't allow her to have a boyfriend. Maybe I've made a mistake somewhere. My apologies.

Hinowa was the highest ranking courtesan and then after yoshiwara was destroyed, btw. after she was freed from the master of yoshiwara, her master... she left her old life behind. She is now a normal woman with her adoptive son. My idea was that he was raised as a child by her master, Housen, so he met her for the first time. He admired her quickly and jokingly said he would marry her later.

Then he disappeared and came back years later.
When she was still living in Yoshiwara, he was not her boyfriend.

Only later do they come together.
