Ogg Vorbis is our open source alternative to MP3. You can read and write MP3's, but what makes them tick is hidden from you. Clearly, this rubs up against us in a bad way so we decided to make our own format. MPeg layer 3 isn't a bad codec; it just dosen't fit in with our philosophy.

hey, you use linux?
thats really cool, i'd really like to start using it, just by putting it on a separate computer, but i use both of my computers, and i dont want to do anything to mess them up, but if i ever got another one, i'd definetely put it in there.
i love the whole marxist idea about linux, anything that is independent and run and maintained by people fascinates me. especially the fact that so many people have collaborated to make linux what it is. I was wondering, what exactly is the ogg vorbis format? i've heard of it, but i dont know much about it. later, dude
