It wasn't their own work. It was art from several other artists, taken and reposted sans permission. They insisted it was removed, but they only hid it from the featured folder. Several have come along to explain how to properly remove the artwork, but nothing has been done.

Hello an welcome to deviantArt.
We as artists may have descended upon you rather harshly for reposting others' work. You wouldn't know thing because you're new, but art theft is a very serious thorn in the side of pretty much every artist on dA. We as artists are having major problems with authors taking our artwork and plastering it on the covers of their books, without having been given permission and without giving credit. So you have to understand where we as artists are coming from.
What you're doing may seem harmless enough, but we have come to view any attempt at theft as serious.
DeviantArt is different from other sites in the very fact that what you've come to know as "reblogging" or "reposting" is not allowed. On deviantArt, if an artist likes a photograph and decides to attempt to draw/paint whatever that photograph depicts, they are obligated to give credit to the photographer in question, and they're obligated to let them know their work of art has inspired another piece of art. We're that touchy when it comes to ownership.
So if you like different artworks by different artists and wish to store them all in one place, dA has created an option for you to do so. Not only can you add art to your "Favorites", you can also create different Collections (like folders) within your favorites, where you can put different kinds of artwork. That way you're supporting the artist by letting them know that you appreciate their work, and you're not reposting it and thereby getting yourself in trouble.
Posting the work that isn't your own, especially without giving credit, is illegal, and this isn't just the dA policy. Those artworks already exist on dA and people already know about them because the artists who created them have posted them. You can find those pieces and add them to your favorites instead. But in order to avoid potential legal ramifications, I'd suggest removing all artwork that isn't yours from your gallery.
As for not being very good at art, really, that's what dA is all about - learning, improving, drawing inspiration from others and getting better at what you do. Remember - we all had to start somewhere. And the community here on dA would be more than willing to help you improve and give advice - so long as it's your own work they're critiquing and not one that's stolen from another gallery.
I hope you understand.
Sincerely, Elluna

I know you are new.. but please keep in mind that deviantart isn't tumblr or facebook or even photobucket. Reposting artwork that isn't yours just because you think is cool. Isn't allowed on dA.
You are pretty much taking credit for art that isn't yours.. and the art that you posted that has the original artists names on it.. They can report you and get you removed..
Do you draw? do you write? take photos? -- Try posting YOUR OWN work.. not someone elses hon.

Simply because you're not good at something is no reason to take from others or otherwise take the easy way out. Not being able to run very fast is no excuse to use steroids. What you cannot do is your responsibility, no one else's. By reposting work that you did not make and without permission, you were unfairly burdening others with your shortcomings and confidence issues.
I know everyone has been telling you this, but that's only happening because when you try to defend your actions with, "Well, I'm not very good at this." And ask why you're not supposed to take from others and post art that isn't yours on an art site, it shows that you have a mentality whereby you try to excuse your actions rather than do the right thing. No one likes to be told what they cannot do, but if you're going to talk back like that (you may not have been trying to be difficult, but that didn't make what you said and asked any less of an excuse), you should expect a lecture. Call it condescension all you like, but it doesn't excuse your attitude. I hope you can prove me wrong and that you're not one to merely take the easy way out and would rather fight with excuses than taking responsibility.

Hey, I know you're new here. This is an art community for artists to share their original work. If you say your work is terrible or you're a bad writer, this is a great community to learn and get better at those things in. Keep your favorites in your favorites folder, and learn how to do the things they do. You still have to remove the work that isn't yours, though.

It is very illegal and you or your mommy and daddy, if you are underage, can be sued for you doing so.

because it's not yours.. If they aren't your images then you can't repost it.
How would you feel if someone came into your house and steal your stuff? you wouldn't like it much would you?.
I'm finding out who the artists are and letting them know you are reposting their images without credit, without permission..
It's illegal to repost images without permission from the ORIGINAL artist.
