YEAH! I saw them once with a few friends in Birmingham and last year at Glastonbury festival! Can't freaking wait for glasto this year- best way to end exams! ooomg same! paper 1 is the easiest though.. well in my opinion at least.

xxx-ellie In reply to willmccarthy [2011-05-16 21:57:27 +0000 UTC]

I am ridiculously jealous -.- my brother saw them live last year in new zealand when he took a year out of uni there.. I got a text saying 'rocking at a muse gig!' and pretty much screamed at my phone.
ahh how did you find the english today? It was so much easier than i thought it would be. Section b, writing to persuade (do you do that?) was way easier than previous years which is lucky. Dunno if the same for you, but we've got poems from different cultures and writing to describe on wednesday. Describe is the only exam i think i actually enjoy taking - except art of course.
Omg did you see on the cat i uploaded? I got a comment from 'heatherzart' - i was like NO WAY cos she's literally my favourite artist on dA. Possibly fav outside this site as well. Seriously check out her stuff, she does scratchboard and it's completely unbelievable, stunning. And she gave me her email so i can ask her for tips and advice whenever

anyway good luck in all your other exams! What else do you have coming up?

willmccarthy In reply to xxx-ellie [2011-05-16 22:33:46 +0000 UTC]

ahaa they are good live I have to say

Yeah the english went well thanks! I did do the persuade yeah, it went better than section A but neither went swimmimgly. Yep again, must be same exam board. I'm not looking forward to that but the literature will be the worst! I have citezenship and maths C2 as level.. which should be fiiiine Then next week gets really busy with spanish and graphics :S What other exams do you have this week?
Yeah I did (incredible by the way), that is so cool! I just looked at her stuff.. Wow. But to be honest you'll be at that level pretty soon I reckon. I have to say despite how impressive yours and her photorealism is, it's not my fave style of art. I'm getting really into modern, urbany, surrealism type portraits (look at [link] ). The collab i'm doing with my friend is going to be similar to that but more similar to iemza (reaaally good street artist). Check them out if you want I've been doing barely any art recently, I've run out of sketchbooks and haven't been able to a decent art shop :/ Probably best for my exams though!

Thanks, Good luck!

Argh well I definitely will see them live sometime, I insist..

Yeah the paper was fairly good on monday, not amazing but definitely better than I thought it would be. How did you find the Culture poems / describe writing? I LOVED the describe because I basically just used a load of vocab and sentences that I'd written in this fairytale in year 9 which was probably my best piece of writing I've done. Literally, that piece was exactly the same! - a beautiful summertime, then suddenly the day gets dark and turns against the characters.. basically. (it was actually a fairytale parody of the ugly duckling mixed with hansel and gretel). So that was easy, was really looking forward to it as well. But section A, i was like WTH! at the question?! I've never learnt about the political shizz? And Two Scavengers was literally THEE worst poem for me, the one I'd studied least >.< so I basically made everything up. Wrote 5 pages on nothing, made no sense whatsoever probably but I couldn't be bothered to check it over. I didn't even structure it right - 5 pages on one WHOLE paragraph. Oh well, paragraphing doesn't matter for the poetry, right?
Tomorrows Biology, B2 and B3, eek. My career basically depends on this -fingers crossed-
Then next week is only english lit and physics. I was lucky, a lot of people got LOADS of exams squashed into this one week, I only had english and biology. Mine are real spaced out, with maths, history, geography and german spaced across june. Only bummer is the last german exam is after our prom -.-
I KNOW her stuff is just mindblowing. Truely fantastic! God, I wish I could be at her level but I doubt I ever will! Checked out that link: SO COOL. I love that style too! Hey you should read "A Monster Calls" by Patrick Ness. He's my favourite author of all time, and that's his (amazing) recent book, with illustrations similar to that kind of style. Look here it is - [link]
Literally, his writing is unbelievable. Incredible. My favourite books of his, well, my fav books OF ALL TIME is the 'Chaos Walking' trilogy (book one = [link] ) and I could ramble on about them easily like I do with everyone.. READ THEM!! Please. You'd be the ..40th? person that I've managed to get hooked. So so unique, amazing, fast-paced, thrilling, heartbreaking.. even if you don't like books, you'd love them. God I sound like an advertiser or something. No but I just love them. In fact, the author and I have spoken on twitter a load, he's replied to me about 15+ times, and last tuesday my brother was lucky enough (well, i made him go haha) to meet him when ness was touring in birmingham. and he gave him a drawing that I'd done of the dog character from the chaos walking trilogy; he loved it! He's mentioned it on twitter a load, and sent everyone my speed drawing of it - [link] - yayy ^.^ he also told Kris (my brother) that me and this really sweet french kid are his favourite fans ahhhh <3 I got a tweet last tuesday saying "Patrick Ness: @ElliesArt am riding back to Birmingham with my publicist and your brother. He has a gift for you..." - to which I screamed my head off at. (the gift was his latest book signed with a LOVELY message at the front)
Jeez I've rambled. God. Really shouldn't have started on Chaos Walking. Shoulda known I wouldn't have stopped.
Really? I've been doing art every night, which is probably bad, since I've been staying up til 2 most nights drawing. But I gotta get all the drawings for my teachers done, plus for the exhibition I'm doing >< The other week I gave my painting of a cheetah [link] to the school on the last day And the headteacher has now commissioned me to do another, for the reception.. woo!
Sorry for the incessant rambling, and good luck for biology tomorrow

Omg. Longest message I have ever received over the internet. Just saying

aaah I was the other way round! Poetry was eaaaasy because I knew hurricane hits england quite well and it linked nicely to what were they like which is the easiest one for me But OMG 5 pages? That's outrageous I only ever do 2. Should be all right though.. BUT section B I tried the last question which was the hardest thing I've ever done and it was so shockingly bad.. about 2 pages of repeating myself and bullshitting :S And I think structure always matters.. oh dear. AAH Good luck with Biology! I'm sure you'll do fine with all of your revision I have loads next week! Lit, Citezenship, 2 spanish, Graphics and something else which I've forgotten.
Yeah German is pissing off so many people because it's the day after Glasto and all of my friends go there every year :S Should have taken spanish
Wooow just the front cover of that book looks incredible. Haha don't you know all the famous artists?!
AAAH the ammount of art you do is so impressive. It's kinda daunting that all of it is so good and I can barely find time to do a quick sketch... I blame facebook to be honest. (picture of leopard loads 'naaaaaw he so sad') Well done! I should try that. I want to be able to quit work and just do commisions.. but I'm not that good yet :L I only work once a week though so get like £10 a week.. so It wouldn't be too hard to make that money drawing!
I don't have Biology because I only do science and additional, not extention but thanks anyway! I'll apply that good luck to the maths on friday Good luck with your Biology! x

Haha yea I tend to write long messages. Remind me never to mention Chaos Walking again, I will rant.

Ahh well I didn't know that hurricane poem /: So I had to do the first question, with the poem I was most hoping would NOT come up, haha. But yeah I compared it to what were they like as well >< How come you didn't do the writing to describe question, that was easy! Describe a country scene in summer then in winter. Completely PERFECT for me, describing countryside/forest is literally the best topic which coulda come up, . Compensated for the horrid question in Section A! Oh dear, well I know paragraphing/structure always matters in the writing pieces, but i thought it wasn't soo important in poetry. Hopefully not. I'm worried mine just didn't make any sense whatsoever. Haha 5 pages is nothing, my paper 1 was 11 pages in total! in tiny writing as well, haha I write reaaally quickly. I have to admit though, it was probably rather unreadable.
Thank youu, well Biology unit 2, the one everyone takes, was easy. And after that I thought, yeahh this is going fine, gonna come out with the grade I need.. then for triple sets came biology 3. I read the first question, and couldn't do it. And when the first question's hard you know you'll fail the paper. -.- So yeah that was the first exam so far that's gone horribly wrong, but luckily everyone found it hell so hopefully the grade boundaries will be ridiculously low. Woah that's a lot of exams, good luck for them all!
Yess, the illustrations are AMAZING, you should read the book! It's incredibly moving, be warned.
Aww thanks, well basically I can survive with like, 4 hours of sleep a night so I just draw after revision, as my kind of "break" (: Because I'm doing art everyday as well, I've got soo much faster, so now I'll do something likee [link] (about double a3 sized) in a couple of hours, but with a background as well. Pastel on velour paper tends to be my quickest media to work in, too. So yeah the past few days I've got about 4 of the teacher-drawings done..but I've been trying to sort out exhibition stuff, there's SO much cost involved, and I've taken my most recent (huge) picture to local art shops who've said I should, for all of my originals: scan them in professionally - costs loads – then make prints - bout 20quid/print, plus costs money for mount and money for cellophane wrap - then frame the originals - hundreds of pounds - and hire a pitch in marwell some of the days in august - 25quid/day, where they take 30% commission on each painting sold, and it costs 50quid/year to be a member to start with, and something like 30quid per original hung for the exhibition... plus i should create a website apparently, which is fairly low cost but still.. oh and business cards, to hand out. oh AND my biography+images could be put in the wildlife artist newsletter.. for 60pounds. it's like JEEZ I'll be soo broke by the end of august. I really need to start saving up but have no time to do commissions u_u
Sorry went off on a bit of a tangent there..
Yes facebook is SUCH a distraction, that's why I've got my dad to block it on my computer not that much good though, cos I still check notifications for a load of sites, like dA and facebook, on my phone. ><
Ooh, where do you work? I'm too lazy to get a job until college. Altho one of my work experience places - a kennels & cattery - said they'll pay me in summer when it gets really busy
How did maths go? (: it's so scary that these are actually our gcses. I kind of never thought they'd come.. 12 years of school leads up to these next few weeks >< so nerve-racking.
Anyway, good luck in everything x

No problem! Yeah this is the first time I've been on my own computer, not my phone, for about a month.. actually haven't wasted like a single hour of my life >< Physics today, it was easy! Which was a relief, considering biology was so bad haha
Hope all exams are going well for you (: Half term now, yay! x

xxx-ellie [2011-04-22 23:42:08 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for the late reply, I've been revising.. -.-
Thank you, yeah I need to experiment more. I've started drawing people more often, mainly for GCSE art, and found it so much easier in carbon & charcoal pencils. People in pastel is like, impossible to get realistic. but -CRAP spider like 10cm long just skittered across the floor. woah that scared me. sorry..- yeah I just so much prefer doing animals, it's so fun to do the expressions in the eyes and detail in the fur. Hehe yea I started doing commissions about a year ago, since I bought pastel pencils (: I've not had time to do any for months tho, I've got a list of about 20-30 and just haven't had the chance. I think I'm taking on too much right now, cos I've got them, gcse art, I'm doing a painting for my school as a sort of leaving present, plus i'm drawing pictures for all my teachers.. and in august I'm doing the "Marwell Wildlife Art exhibition" (look it up, it's awesome) so I need to do a load of big cat drawings for that. yea and that's not even mentioning revision :L

Haha! What kind of ideas have you got? (: I'm doing art in college but only in AS-level. I would do a full A-level but I gotta do chemistry and biology and another academic subject (maths) if I wanna become a vet when I'm older. Yea we did our final piece about a month ago, I did this: [link] woo

Woa long message.
Now back to art. I think I'm gonna stay up all night painting. The other day I did til 7 in the morning, haha..

No worries! I've had a bit.. haven't done enough though! Wooooh loads of art. I really need to do more art but I get distracted so easily.. probably need a completely separate room to do it really. I have about 4 commisions going for various friends.. from £5 to £15 :L I'm to lazy to finish them though!

For A level I'm doing maths, physics, graphics and art.. actually can't wait! Sooo fed up of the other subjects. Luckily I don't have to drop one in year 13 because I've already done most of AS level maths For art I definitely want to do something really street arty and urban... hopefully involving some mural painting Also I want to do some more abstract photoshop stuff (look up Android Jones if you don't know him- he's a beast). Also I'm doing a collab with a friend that I met at an art course so I'll include that hopefully.

Good luck with all your art shenanigans. I will keep watch

Urgh revision's driving me crazy. Like, seriously, 6 hours a day.. Physics is just killing me it's so deathly boring -.- how can you enjoy it!? Haha. The only part i like is in P3 with learning about the life history of stars. Where we basically just watch brian cox's wonders of the universe all lesson :L never gets dull no matter how many times i watch it.
gcse art's now finished! well all the stuff is, now we just gotta mount everything. Worked out i've done nearly 100 hours on my exam material, eg supporting studies, haha. Shame it's finished though. Yeah i really need a studio, my friend's got one in her garden but i've just completely taken over two rooms of my house for art, much to the parents' annoyance. I've basically got one room as a gallery-in-progress, and another to record my youtube speed-drawings :L
Wow how come you've already done some of college maths!? My friend in australia's done some of that as well but my school doesn't offer it unfortunately. I'm looking forward to that at a-level. And i wish i didn't have to drop art! Your ideas sound really cool what art course did you do? S'cuse my nosiness

Thanks, good luck too - and for exams! Less than a month.. :S

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

willmccarthy In reply to xxx-ellie [2011-04-29 21:34:18 +0000 UTC]

6 HOURS?! I'm doing about 1 hour a day.. maximum! oooh dear.
Because I find physics the only useful science. I suppose if you want to be a vet then chemistry and biology would be a lot more interesting.. but to me they seem dull as hell! haha brian cox! My chemistry teacher has a signed photo from him, she loves him so much it's hilarious :L
Yeaaah I have to do one more piece then I'm done with gcse art. ah that's so much better than what I have.. which is essentially my cramped desk. I dont even have an easel to work on :/ I'm going to make my mum buy me some art stuff soon though
I'm doing AS maths already because I did gcse a year early It's not much harder than gcse really, just takes a bit more thinking about. I went to a place called kilve court. It was a free course for "gifted and talented art students" :L Basically just a range of art things, really basic stuff to be honest. I'm going to do a fine art painting course in Bath in the summer which should be really helpful.

Oooh yeah good luck with your exams too! 3 weeks until english D: not looking forward to that!

xxx-ellie In reply to willmccarthy [2011-05-02 09:41:46 +0000 UTC]

Lol yeah, yesterday i did 8 hours, of physics.. :L usually i do 5 or 6 though. It's cos my whole career basically depends on my grades, if i get all A*s the vet unis would look on me a lot more highly than if i didn't - 1 in 12 people who apply get in, and pretty much all those who do apply have got all As or A*s at gcse. It's a competitive business xD so yea i'd kind of kick myself if i didn't revise then paid the price.
mm i guess physics is useful, and i find some parts interesting, but forces.. -.- Haha well i like brian cox, but not that much aha. My dad's met him, lucky thing.
Oh really? I've got a table easel and a metal standing one, simply because i found really good deals on both. The table one came with a load of canvases, a set of windsor&newton acrylic, and brushes.. And was only £25, it was like 75% off. And the metal field easel i got for £17 on greatart .com or .co.uk or something. Aw lucky, your mum buys your art stuff? Lol i recently spent over 80quid in one go on the greatart site, it's really good! I'm gonna be so broke once i've bought the frames for all my pictures for the exhibition in august..
oh wow that art course sounds wicked!
Yeah, omg 2 weeks. Seems completely surreal. Hope you do well!

Wow thank you!! But your stuff's amazing. And you've got so much more of a distinct style than me.
Looked through your gallery, and all your pics are so unique. Mine, I just aim for photo-realism which is pretty boring as everyone does it n_n but your stuff's awesome so don't say it's depressing haha!

My art GCSE's ending in a few weeks as well, sad times. When did you do your exam final piece?
