Aetherius ( [link] ) is just a combination of PS and 3ds max. the 3d was really simple, and I ran a ton of post processing in PS to get it to look like that...it was originally just one color and not quite so bright. The key is layer masks, and more layermasks, and then some more layermasks. Of course, these masks mask a lot of color balance/hue changes, and some gaussian blurred, screen-blended layers to blow the highlights.

Many thanks for your comments on my recent deviation, the Trinity digital painting. It's only around 33% done, so if you like what you're seeing now, you'll love the finished product.

Regarding your comments, I couldn't agree more. It is a WIP, so it's got a long way to go before being finished. Regardless, the nose and hair points were spot-on. I plan on working on those to more closely match the source image, along with further work on the sunglasses, lips, and other facial features. The nice thing about doing this from scratch is I can ignore photographic laws and make everything perfectly in-focus, so I'm going to attempt to add little details like blonde neck hairs and random strands that wouldn't be seen in the low-res original.

Be sure and tell all your friends about it, too! ;-D
