Its a little sad, I think. I haven't been watching HA anymore and sometimes its hard to follow some fanart/fanfiction because I don't really know some of the characters or specific episodes.
Ah well.
It is still fun to look around and see what others can cook up from the HA storyline and characters... even though fanart here is quite sparce?

I always thought that one has to watch most of the episodes to be a true fan. I mean, you have to know the storyline really well, to write a good fanfiction don't you think?
But yet I have to agree with you. I like some cartoons but that doesn't mean I watched all the episodes of that specific cartoon.

I started to draw PPG fanart without seeing a single one episode... ! And I kept doing so for many( 4 )years - actually, I became a fan of other peopleΒ΄s fanworks!
To be sincer with you, I became a bit disappointed when I saw the "real" series - the fanworks had more passion, more love for doing it, on my view; the PPG movie was great, though, as good as many fan works( faanrt, fanfic and ficarts )I already saw!
Call me crazy, then... ^^D
However,
When I knew HA!, I could love botrh things alike, i found the series so interesting, as much the fan works so nice, that I couldnΒ΄t help but love it!
Also, I met many real nice people among them! I quite regret for not being around when the fandom was more active...
( Sadly, though, the PPG fandom was so full of trolls that it didnΒ΄t made the experience as much enjoyable )

What made you want to do fanart of the powerpuff girls even though you have never watched a single episode? Is it the character design of the characters?
But... Maybe I can understand why... I have never watched Naruto... but after going through the fandom and watching 2-3 episodes, I began doing fanarts and making up characters even though I never fully understand the storyline.
Yup. I have to agree with you. I find the powerpuff girls episodes very shallow... that's why sometimes I have to turn to the fandom for more indept storylines. (Or just make stories up by myself based on the PPG basic story... THAT'S the fun part
Well... the show is for kids... so you can't really blame them there.
However, HA is quite thought-provoking. They talk about teen angst (Though quite exaggerated sometimes) and how the different characters try to deal with the problems the right way. Almost all the characters are enjoyable and have their share of solo episodes.
REALLY? The PPG fandom has trolls?! OMGOSH! Tell me more...! XD (GOSSIP!) hahah sorry... getting myself carried away. I don't really encounter trolls... more like 'OC's whose character design can FURTHER be developed. XD

The whole thign was funny to tell, and quite bizarre, I know, but it happened this way:

in early 2001, when I just got internet access( though I didnΒ΄t had cable TV either ), I was invited to participate of an Anime convention( teaching some drawing workshops there, in another city, quite far from mineΒ΄s, BTW ); it happened that the persons who were hosting me had some PPG trivia!
I knoe that there was a cartoon series about those characters, but never actually watched any episode - so, just as a matter of gentleness, I made some fanarts to leave those as gifts to the hostess back to home, then, I made a search for the topic( "PPG" )and found discussion forums about that - since then, I knew about fanart and fanfiction, and started to participate on that fandom - mostlyu ought for waht I saw and enjoyed that was baing done with those characters!

The very first "episode" I could saw was the PPG movie, nearly three years later( I liked that, though I canΒ΄t tell it all the same for most of the episodes ).

Actually... to me... the PPG movie wasn't exactly great (But of course, it had more substance than the series... Come on! Its a movie!). I may not like the stories but I like the character designs of the PPG.
I like the concept of magical girls... so seeing cute characters fighting crime somehow... inspires me... XD Stories may be shallow, yes, but its the personality and the theme of the characters that I will never forget.
