Hello Valentina -
I have added comments on two of your illustrations. I would LOVE to add your calendar to my collection and an entry for it on my website:
www.tolkiencalendars.com
My daughter is a graphic designer and could print a copy for me. Could I ask you to send high resolution (.ai Adobe Illustrator or other file format) files of the illustrations for your calendar to me? Also, I would love to add both Russian and English versions of it.
I think your illustrations are very unique and quite wonderful. Hope to hear from you soon. You may write to me via the email link on my website. Thank you!
Phil (Parmastahir)

Hello!
Very sorry I couldn't reply earlier!
You did very good project, It's a pity I didn't see it before (becouse I spent a lot of time exploring Tolkien calendars).
I would be glad if you add my calendar to you site. You can take preview images (Russian) here: [link]
Soon I'll send you HiRes files.
Thank you for your proposal!

Hello Valentina
THAG YOU VERY BUCH (as Bilbo said) for responding to my post! I am VERY happy that you will send HiRes files to me. You can send them via the email address on my website. If it is OK with you, could you send both Russian and English files for your illustrations? I would like to create entries for both versions on my webiste. The Russian one would be only the second Russian calendar on my site!
Thank you for your compliment on my website. My son created it for me when he was in college. Then he taught me how to maintain it and set me up with an ftp software. If you have ANY questions about the calendars, please write to me. I would be more than happy to discuss them with you.
As to the entries for your calendars, please let me know what link you would like me to put in your entries. I have an idea to use this page:
[link]
It seems to show all of the illustrations for your calendars. But I will use whatever link(s) that you would like me to use.
I am VERY much looking forward to the files (because I really want to have my daughter print a copy of each one for me! There is something about having a hardcopy of them in my collection that is very satisfying.)
About printing a copy, do you have any suggestions about the format?
Thanks again. I appreciate everything very much!

I must say, I'm impressed at your choice to do Silmarillion work. A lot of LOTR fans haven't even read it (I myself only got through the beginning before being sidetracked/put off by its archaic style.) I shall watch your art as a reminder of my obligations.

I think it is worth to read despite of archaic style

your works with type have greatly inspired me for a project I am doing for my typography class. I'm making a typography "book" on Tolkien and his works and I immediately thought of the illustrations you and others have done with words/passages and wanted to try my hand at it, especially since my teacher said he wants to see something new and as far as I know... no one at my school has done this sort of thing. o_O
Do you have any tips about doing this? I think I've got it down, but if you know any cool things to do with it, I'd like to know. Do you work in Illustrator?

Yes, I work in Illustrator. I don't know what current tips do you need, but I'm ready to help. If you ask some questions I'll try to answer.

Umm... wlel, is it a lot easier just to work the way you do, with 2 or 3 colors? I've tried doing some gradients and stuff but I just can't seem to make it look right or how to coordinate the fill color with text. Other than that, I think I'm fine. hehe

zdrava In reply to silamir [2012-07-02 21:19:55 +0000 UTC]
That's how I do it:
1) use 2 color swatch (I use black and blue as you can see).
2) create some intermediate colors (10 will be enough). I use object/blend command for this.
3) set different color for every word (or several words/phrases). I use very small tracking and leading for text, that's why it looks like gradient, but actualy it's not gradient.
