Description
Hiyo!! Hair tutorial was requested but idk how to tutorial so I will call this my process with added descriptions so you know what the heck I'm doing
Hope its okeee =w= Pls don't look at my color choices pre-step 9 honestly I never know what I'm doing
STEP 1
Put in the base colors and whatnot!! Usually I color hair right after skin, but for tutorial purposes it's last x) Otherwise, nothing has been done to the base purple color of the hair yet.
STEP 2
Here I put on a very messy base of a darker shade. I put a subtle gradient at the roots and ends of the hair, and then put in messy
strokes around the middle of the bangs/hair. The color was a bit too dark and not what I wanted, so I tweaked it a bit in the next step.
The important part for my method is keeping the initial shading pretty light!
STEP 3
Ok now it's probably looking like those drawing books where it's like "step 1: draw a circle, step 2: add some lines, step 3: now finish
the drawing in incredible detail" :"D I promise this step is really just kind of intuitive for me, and came with a lot of practice over time. I
basically just erased little strands and triangle-like shapes around the parts that I shaded in step 2 as well as added more shading in the
places where they are (mostly) supposed to be.
STEP 4
In this step I chose a darker shade to really define the shadows now. I didn't go over everything I did in step 3, I just kind of
emphasized some of the parts which would naturally be darker. This step is pretty easy since you just have to follow some of the
shadows which were done in step 3.
STEP 5
Now I chose a color that was a little bit darker and a considerable amount more desaturated. I'm still personally debating if this method
of color use is working for me, but for now that is how it is haha. Once again, I went over the basic shades that I already had down,
although a lot less than step 4. This time REALLY emphasize parts that should be dark.
STEP 6
One of my favorite steps!! I basically just pick some of the other colors that aren't from the hair like the skin and the shirt and mix them
into the shades of the hair a little bit. It really brings everything together and kinda adds a certain harmony to the drawing. It can be
subtle but very effective.
STEP 7
Shinies!! I realized it might have been better to put another step before this, but basically I blob on a light color similarly to step 2 in
places where I want shine. I usually put shine near the top of the head in a kinda circle-y shape to add depth, and a few other areas
along the head. It's easy to go overboard, so just watch out for that =w=
STEP 8
After I add shines, I like to pick the base color back up and add a gradient look to them. The shines in step 7 are a bit much as they
were, but blending them into the hair by adding the base color brings it together a bit more.
STEP 9
Now kill it with color editing because maybe you can't choose nice colors at all, similarly to me ||D
Here is just a bunch of final touches. I colored the hair over some parts of the eyes, added loose strands with the pen tool, and
obviously edited the colors because they were boring before!
And that concludes my process, if you have any questions pls feel free to ask

If you don't mind can I ask what brushes or settings you're using on them? It's okay if you don't want to give the settings but can I at least know what brush is for what step? :0

I use Clip Studio Paint so it's not so much settings as an entire brush, but I think I remember using this one I made for the coloring steps:

I'd like to try coloring this way~!
It's a lot of lines and shading though but it looks very worth it! How long would it usually take just to color the head? O_o

You think so??? :^ OOO It seems like a regular amount of lines and shades but I guess I'm used to it lol--
For hair maybe 30-40 mins? And for the whole head probably just a lil over an hour ^_^

MM it took me a lot of practice to even get nice shines over time -- T3T
I guess the one tip I would have is to keep the shines kind of in line with each other like I did (hope that makes sense lol)
I remember reading a while ago to treat hair kind of like a silk ribbon too, if that helps.
