Description
Eagle is one of two engines who work on the Norramby Branch Line. He was the first of the two to work there, and has enjoyed being by himself. When Hunter arrived Eagle was not pleased at first and acted hostile, but now he has grown to like Hunter and the two run the line very effectively. You can read about him in the Sodor Island Forum's ERS Library, in the following books:
ERS 65- Hunter the Prairie Tank Engine
ERS 76- Laggan the Highland Engine
ERS 100- Edward and the Branch Line Engines
ERS 101- Edward's Branch Line Again
ERS 128- The Greatest of Western Engines
ERS 164- A Sudrian Heatwave

Wonder if he's ever been called James by accident

Eagle looks good here
Read all about him on the fansite.. great stuff.
His tender is interesting.. it's got cab coverage. Why did the designers of these locos choose to add that there?

Eagle's tender is a type that was fixed with cab panels and windows to make running tender-first easier. Tender engines running tender-first were a common occurrence on branch lines.

I see.. It's a good look, I think.
Were these cab-panels common for any other class of loco?

They were used on the Super D 0-8-0s, and similar styles were used on lots of BR pacifics, including the Britannias on some tenders and the Duke Of Gloucester. Also, the 9Fs had the same type on most tenders.

I guess this is why people keep calling the Red Engine Eagle in the Trainz series...

That is correct. When Eagle's creator Ryan first came up with the character, it was intended to be a fleshed out version of the Red Engine in "The Sad Story of Henry". However his chosen prototype did not line up with the timeline of the story, so the character was made entirely independent from the Red Engine. Unfortunately the name 'Eagle' has stuck for the Red Engine by the non-SiF Thomas fandom, even though now it's no longer relevant.
Ironically, the ERS character 'Simon' has since been created to fill in as the 'Red Engine' characterisation.

That's just one thing that sort of annoys me about the fandom is the constant referring to the red engine as Eagle. You'd think it'd have stopped after the ERS was tweaked.

So? I'd still use Eagle in my series as well as have him in the same basis as James.

its from an old little kids show

Well, if you knew anything about the show, you'd know that although 'Thomas and Friends' in it's current form is immature and purely for toddlers, the original 'Railway Series' books and first few seasons of the television series were for people of all ages, featuring realistic story lines (most of which happened on real railways in real life) and well developed likeable characters.
These drawings are of fan-made characters based solely on the Railway Series books and characters. And they are more developed than most characters in other shows like, say, My Little Pony (now THAT is a kids show).
So, it's not an 'old little kids show', it's a world-renown classic franchise with a giant fanbase of which it is deserving of.

Amen, brother!!! Even though there are some stories in the current form that could be overhauled into the railway series, you can't beat the classics.

Nice work, pal! I normally have Eagle as the same class as James, thus making them twins, in my series.
