My entry for the 'Deleted Scenes 2010' contest for The-spirit-of-Spirit. This took me the better part of the day to complete. Sorry for the terrible background.

This takes place the very morning after Spirit was taken away by the cavalry and Rain was shot. Little Creek didn't seem surprised at the end that Rain survived, so I like to imagine that he treated her wounds immediately after finding her. Originally I was going to draw the shaman healing her, but I decided I wanted to see more of the bond between Little Creek and Rain and figured the shaman was probably busy healing the wounded people from the village.

Rain flinched as the syrupy liquid was gently smeared across the deep wound in her side. The object that had stung her had been removed, but it still pained her. Her lungs struggled with each intake of breath. However the pain of her injury paled in comparison to the ache in her heart. Her dear companion had been torn away from her. Why? What did the strange two leggeds want with him? A weak nicker escaped her in distress as she struggled to lift her head as she lie on the frost covered ground.

"Shh... don't exert yourself, Rain," Little Creek gave her muzzle a comforting pet. "You need to rest."

The sadness in her glistening blue eyes was evident, and the young man could only reassure her with a promise he intended to keep. "Don't worry, girl. I'll get him back."
