Description
I did this piece for Project Educate's Literature Character Portrait Contest.
It was a difficult decision, but I decided to portray Julia, from 1984.
Her literal description, as given in George Orwell's book, 1984, published in 1949: "She was a bold-looking girl, of about twenty-seven, with thick hair, a freckled face, and swift, athletic movements. A narrow scarlet sash, emblem of the Junior Anti-Sex League, was wound several times round the waist of her overalls, just tightly enough to bring out the shapeliness of her hips."

If I were to choose another character to illustrate, I would choose Scarlett O'Hara from Gone with the Wind, or Faber from Fahrenheit 451.

This was done with watercolor pencils and ink, on sketch paper.
